Five-year-old Italian pianist Alberto Cartuccia Cingolani just began taking piano lessons in 2020. He just played in a music competition, and the audience was blown away by his amazing performance of Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 16 in C major.
His act was captured on camera, which was posted online and has already received more than 5 million views on Twitter. An artistic family runs in Alberto’s blood.
His mother teaches singing, while his father is a music educator. Alberto’s parents started him playing the piano when he was 3 years old and realized right away that he had a natural passion for it.
Alessia Cingolani, Alberto’s mother, recalled that her son ‘started playing’ during the first lockdown. ‘Since I was often at home, we started playing games on a little keyboard to keep ourselves entertained.
I concluded that Alberto was a good fit after that. My husband and I both noted that he had excellent pitch while [doing this].
[Alberto] has been accomplishing amazing things for the past year and a half, both for his age and for how long it took him to learn.
Even though he still struggles, almost completely struggles, to read [music] notes, he resumes his place at the keyboard and plays the pieces again. He has excellent instincts.
It is incredible to observe Alberto’s small fingertips glide across the piano keys with such ease in the video of him playing.
He really is a natural at it! And it is incredible to think that he still can’t read music but can still play such challenging compositions by ear and by hearing the notes.
