Jimmy also welcomed Dorothea Taylor, a 71-year-old ‘Nana,’ to talk about the special bond that exists between grandmothers and their grandkids.

And her drumming skills absolutely floored us.

Jimmy reports that she has three grown children and two grandchildren. She added that one of her hopes for the future is to have a grandchild who shares her passion for music.

Dorothea Taylor told Drum Magazine in a separate interview that she picked up the drums when she was 13 years old in her native Michigan.

In her junior year of high school, she bought her first set of drums and, after graduation, she immediately joined a band, with which she now regularly performs five evenings a week.

At the age of seventeen, she began her career as a teacher by instructing the drumline for her school’s Feeder Corps.

She has expertise performing in a wide variety of musical settings, having played drums in polka bands, rock bands, theater groups, church cantatas, symphony orchestras, jazz trios, and even accompanying school concerts.

When Nana Dorothea returned to Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night show, she found herself in a drum-off with Questlove.

Known by his stage name Questlove, percussionist Ahmir Thompson has won a Grammy for his work with the group The Roots.

They both perform, and everyone is impressed by their drumming skills. And who was the happiest of all? It’s Jimmy, of course.

Dorothea shared also with Drum Magazine that when she was starting, there were no females playing in drum lines, but she didn’t care.

So, she practiced every single day and loved every minute of it.
