We have witnessed the worst of opportunists throughout this time. In addition, there are instances of extraordinary giving from various groups and individuals.
Rev. Giuseppe Berardelli, 72, is an illustration of one of these people. It’s possible that many of you are already familiar with this man, but his tale is equal parts moving and inspiring.
Berardelli was highly recognized for both his love of motorcycles and his amiable personality.
In the same way that many priests are laboring to care for the ill and the suffering, he got the the disease.
In Italy, sixty priests have lost battle to the disease as a result of the outbreak, and many more are nauseous.
Berardelli worked as a priest in the parish of San Giovanni Battista in Casnigo, Italy, which is located just northeast of the Italian capital of Milan.
When his supporters bought him a respirator, he insisted that they give it to someone younger than himself rather than to himself, and eventually he caught the sickness.
When he got to the hospital, he was put on a ventilator. The priest saw a younger patient there who appeared
He insisted on using the technique on the younger patient in spite of his protests. A short while later, in the hospital, Berardelli passed away from the sickness. Berardelli stands in for all of humanity in the face of this outbreak.
The good news is that Berardelli and hundreds of other priests have teamed up with doctors and nurses to address this issue.
Yes, the crisis has brought out the worst in some of us, but it has also brought out the best.
