The street preacher Patricia Kopta, or ‘The Sparrow,’ lived in Ross Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

When he couldn’t locate his wife in 1992, her husband filed a missing person’s report.

Nothing had been heard from her until now. Once Kopta was found safe and sound in Puerto Rico, police in Ross Township declared the case closed.

The Ross Township, New Jersey, police were called by an Interpol agent and a social worker who claimed to have tracked down Kopta, who was last seen living in a Puerto Rican nursing home.

Since June of 1999, she has been determined to require assistance. According to the police, the woman initially refused to discuss any aspects of her life before to moving to Puerto Rico.

As for how she got to Puerto Rico, all she said was that she had come from Europe on a cruise ship. She was quite evasive about other aspects of her identity.

It wasn’t until much later in life that she began to open up about her history and provide officials with enough information to locate her relatives in the United States.

Kopta’s sister and nephew were located by police in Pennsylvania, and their DNA was used in conjunction with Kopta’s to confirm that she was the person who had been recovered.

Gloria Smith, Kopta’s sister, told reporters during a news conference that the family is ‘extremely pleased to know that Patty is alive and well’

and that ‘She’s being well taken care of.’ Kopta’s husband was also present. For years, we were under

the impression that she had passed away. To learn that she is still living came as a complete surprise to me; I’m eager to pay her a visit.
