At first glance this is a normal cute family photo, but you will be surprised and amazed when you know the story of this elderly woman and newborn baby

What do you consider to be the ideal number of kids? Many couples wish to have two children, while others aim to have many more than two.

Perhaps the latter have dreams of becoming old surrounded by a large number of grandchildren. The mother in today’s tale was adamant on having a large brood.

She saw her descendants multiply as her children grew up and had offspring of their own. When she was on the verge of becoming a nun decades ago, she had never envisioned having one hundred great-grandchildren.

NEARLY A NUN

Marguerite Koller, a woman from Pennsylvania, made the decision to become a nun while she was a senior in high school.

She remained mum about what motivated her to apply to the convent, but she credited her late husband with saving her from taking the challenging route.

The young Marguerite, who had been accepted by the monastery, abandoned her ambitions after hearing what William Koller had to say.

She had no idea that he would wind up becoming her lifelong partner at the time. She remembered: When I was a junior in high school, I actually applied, but William talked me out of it.

HIS FIRST CHILD

Marguerite and William were married in 1942, just before the outbreak of World War II. Marguerite, who didn’t have any siblings, knew she wanted a large family from the beginning.

The couple had their first child a year after the conflict. As Marguerite recalled:‘I desired a sizable family. Being an only child, in my opinion, is challenging and lonely.’

Marguerite had intended to have 12 children, but the arduous labor and delivery caused her to change her mind. After having a few kids, she understood parenting wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

Fourth GENERATIONS

After Marguerite, there were three generations full of talented individuals. There were lawyers, real estate brokers, educators, and even a businessman who ran the Koller Funeral Home, the family’s enterprise.

But none of Marguerite’s offspring were able to grant her hidden request. She humorously remarked:

I always wanted a doctor, but I never did.
Marguerite never has to be concerned about being alone because her family is made up of over 150 people.

Her descendants continue to pay her visits, and holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving are off-limits to visitors.

THE ONE HUNDREDTH GRANDCHILD

The birth of Christine Balster’s child, who was supposed to be the 99th great-grandchild but instead became the 100th, occurred about a week later than expected. Marguerite commented while holding the newest descendent on her list:

‘I’m just reflecting on how fortunate I am.’
Balster decided to commemorate her grandfather by naming her child after him with the approval of her spouse.

She said that because her husband preferred the name ‘Kole,’ they chose to give their child the middle name ‘William’ and the first name ‘Koller.’
