Tom Jones’s tribute to his late wife with whom he lived almost 6 decades brings the crowd to tears.(video)

Tom Jones, 82, mentors on the UK’s The Voice. Jones sang on Saturday’s program, not a contestant.

Everyone cries after ‘Voice’ performance
Jones: ‘This song is meaningful to me.’ ‘I strive to choose meaningful tunes. This song is about supporting the people you love. You must support them.’

He sang ‘I Won’t Crumble With You If You Fall’ from his chair.

The heartfelt performance made the judges cry, but it was made much more sad when Jones described the song’s inspiration: his late wife, Melinda Trenchard.

‘My wife was dying of lung cancer, so I said if she needed me I was always there,’ Jones added.

She pleaded, ‘Don’t fall with me, you’ve done everything you can, keep going.’ When I heard the song, it seemed written for the situation. Beautiful song.’

59-year marriage
Young Tom Jones and Melinda Trenchard met.

Jones met Melinda in a Radio 2 documentary and remarked, ‘What great legs she has!’

The 16-year-old high school sweethearts married and had a son. Together for 59 years.

It was a long marriage for a celebrity, but it wasn’t a fairytale. Jones, a world-famous sex symbol at the height of his fame, said he once slept with 250 women a year.

Melinda kept faithful despite his infidelity since they had an arrangement.

Melinda reportedly said, ‘I feel alive when [Tom] enters through the door, day or night.’

After nearly 60 years of marriage, they were a significant part of each other’s life.

Melinda died in 2016 after a ‘short, tough’ lung cancer struggle. Jones was heartbroken and unsure if he could continue singing.

‘I won’t sing some tunes. But you must have perspective. Emotional? Put it in the song, he said. ‘It was difficult. I tried to sing for months. I tried some songs with my band. It was emotional.’
