Sometimes, life can be very horrible. Everyone will inevitably encounter challenging conditions. But, most people will never experience anything like to the Holocaust or Germany under Nazi rule.
Happy Days actor Henry Winkler, better known as Arthur ‘Fonzie’ Fonzarelli, spoke of his father’s escape from Nazi-occupied Germany.

Henry talks about his father’s escape from the fury and torture of Nazi forces in Berlin, Germany,
during the conversation. He notes that his parents had each been granted a six-week work visa for the US.
But before departing, his father devised a brilliant scheme to support himself in America while avoiding detection by the wary Nazi soldiers.
Henry added, ‘My father begged his mother for jewelry. ‘Then after purchasing a box of chocolate,

he melted it down and covered each piece of jewelry in it. Place the box beneath his arm and then into the box.
Henry claimed that his father came up with this strategy because he thought the Nazis might ask a question.
So, when the Nazis questioned, ‘Are you taking anything of value out of Germany?,’ No, check our baggage, check us, nothing, he said, Henry recalled.
Henry claimed that after coming to America, his father utilized the cash from pawning the jewels to support him in establishing a new life in New York City.

Henry clarifies that the story doesn’t finish there, though.
Henry explained, ‘[My father] eventually developed a lumber business and was able to buy the jewelry back.
And I have my great-pocket grandfather’s watch that was hidden inside a chocolate container and smuggled out of Germany. Still effective. Just great to pass down from one generation to the next.
Wow!
Near the end of the three-minute interview, Henry discusses how and why he and his family have grown to value a single potted plant so highly.
