A guy in his 30s and an older woman standing on the other side of the hallway had a strange connection.

But after they had spent a few nights talking and cooking together, something terrible was found out about their lives.

In 2017, many people were greatly affected by a story that moved them.

All of this started when actor and singer Chris Salvatore waved at his neighbor, 89-year-old interior designer Norma Cook, who lives across the hall from him.

At last, he told her she was welcome to stop by where she lived.

Salvatore and Maria became fast friends because they were both carrying champagne glasses. In time, he started calling Maria his best friend.

A few years into their friendship, Cook got the sad news that she had leukemia and chose not to get care for it. Because of this, she was given only two months to live.

Even though the doctors said she needed care 24 hours a day, the interior designer didn’t want to be put in a nursing home for the old.

But the doctors were clear that she needed care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In the beginning, one of her best friends started a GoFundMe effort to raise money for in-home care.

But when the money from these gifts ran out, he chose to take care of her himself instead of relying on the money that had been given.

Throughout the day, they drank champagne and watched the news together.

The performer said the following about his choice to take care of his neighbor full-time:

She said, “I think that kindness in people is a miracle that can heal things that doctors can’t.”

Salvatore said that she reminded him a lot of his grandmother, which is one of the reasons he couldn’t let her go to a facility.

The old woman beat the chances and lived longer than anyone thought she would. However, her illness caught up with her in the end, and she died in February 2017.

Salvatore said this as he wiped his eyes with a tissue:

She was a nice and kind person. She made a difference in the whole world because she had a big heart and could connect with people of all kinds.

He wrote about the time he spent with Cook on Instagram. He also told his fans that Cook had died on Instagram.

He said that the most important thing Cook left behind was how she showed how valuable love is.

He took pictures of many of their most memorable times over the years. He showed up in both cases with Cook’s brother and shared a picture of Cook’s brother visiting his sister after a long time.

In a different post, he thanked his fans and said that his neighbor was touched by all the kind things people were doing for her.

But the posts he has written that have caused him the most pain are the ones in which he keeps saying how much he still misses her…

In one from 2017, he wrote about how she could make him laugh, and in another from 2018, he wrote about how hard it was for him not to talk to her.

In 2019, he posted a video of Cook crying as he told Salvatore that he loved him. In the summary that the vocalist wrote, he or she said the following:

Even though there was a lot of time between us and we had never met before, we were still able to love each other.

This lovely friendship shows that two people who barely know each other can have a big effect on each other’s lives.
