Co-host of ‘Today’ Carson Daly discusses his unusual Father’s Day plans in memory of his dead father

Father’s Day can cause a lot of conflicting feelings in people.

It’s a day of celebration for many people. Others use this day to express their sorrow over the loss of their father.

And for some people, it’s a day to honor individuals who took on the role of father while they were lacking one.

The Today co-host Carson Daly recently took some time to think about the day and how he was going to remember two significant persons in his life who had passed away.

On Father’s Day, Daly said he intends to take his late father’s 1977 Corvette out for a spin.

Jim ‘J.D.’ Carson was only five years old when Daly passed away from bladder cancer.

Driving his father’s car will remind him of his early years because it is the same vehicle that he and his father used to travel in.

I don’t use it as frequently anymore. However, I’ll use it on Father’s Day to go have coffee and I’ll think about my father, Carson said.

As he drives the 1977 Corvette, he also intends to listen to James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, and Eagles, three of his son J.D.

He intends to pay tribute to his late stepfather by watching golf after taking a ride in the car that belonged to his late father.

‘Golf brought my stepdad and I together. We always watched the U.S. Open on Father’s Day since

it was our shared interest, he added. So I’ll pour myself a beer in a frosted mug and my dad a beer, too.

‘I’ll act as if he’s still present. I’ll try to just focus on that emotion I had when sitting there with him. What other options exist?

He has been informed that his four children will be making him a special breakfast as part of how his family will be honoring him on Father’s Day.

Father’s Day without the man you considered your father can be challenging, especially if it’s your first. However, there are still ways you may respect the bond you shared with them.
