Macaulay Culkin became famous throughout the world as a child thanks to the role of Kevin McCallister in the Home Alone films.

After that, he continued his career, although, basically, only in roles with a narrow target audience, so that the viewer remembered him most of all as the charming prankster Kevin.

Macaulay is already 40 years old and recently joked about this role of his, saying that he probably makes his fans feel his age.

Macaulay Culkin was born on August 26, 1980 to former Broadway actor Christopher Cornelius Culkin and Patricia Brentrup.

Since there were six children in the family besides him, Macaulay’s childhood was quite modest.

In 2018, his younger brother, Kieran Culkin, told Vanity Fair that their family at the time lived in a

small apartment near the railroad, which, he said, ‘was hardly enough space for a childless couple.’

‘The apartment was one large room without doors, except for the entrance and the bathroom, in which there was not even a lock.

And seven children lived in this apartment – for many years in a row! We are already used to the fact that the family is constantly replenished,’ Kiran says.

Macaulay’s parents slept on the sofa and took turns working so that one of them was always at home and looked after the children.

They were not even married, although they had such a large family. In the 60s, his father also worked as an actor and was even considered one of the rising stars of Broadway,

where he was better known by the nickname Keith. After the birth of his first child, he had to get a job as a kister in the local church,

thanks to which they managed to profitably attach the children to the parish school. Patricia, Macaulay’s mother, worked as an operator in a telephone inquiry service.

Emily Gerson Saines, longtime agent and spokesperson for the Culkin family, says Patricia (or Patty, as she calls her)

has always taken her role as mother and founder of a family of such imposing proportions very seriously.

‘(She) did not forget about family values, so, for example, they would certainly gather with the whole family for dinner at the Christmas tree or for Thanksgiving, recalls Sains.

All this played a very important role for Patty, and she tried to convey these values ​​to children’ Patricia and Keith have always wanted their children to work in show business.

Kieran said that their parents never stopped looking for new opportunities for them to try their hand at acting.

‘Friends of my parents had a small theater called the Light Opera of Manhattan, and every time they put something with children’s roles there,

they always asked what age, what gender. After all, they had seven of us, they could choose’ she says.

Macaulay’s fame grew with him through frustration and film fatigue. Finally, in 1994, he managed to say goodbye to Hollywood.

His parents decided to divorce, and the young actor abandoned his career, preferring the life of an ordinary teenager to him.

He studied at a private school in Manhattan, with enviable regularity refusing the roles offered to him.

‘I only hoped that one day I would disappear from this planet,’ he admitted in an interview with Time magazine in 2001.

When Macaulay’s parents decided to leave, he had no idea how much he managed to earn when he was an actor.

‘My father hid newspapers from me so that I wouldn’t accidentally come across an article about him or a mention of how much I was paid for my work in the form of a fee,’

he says in an interview with New York. ‘I understand, of course, why they did it. Probably just didn’t want me to brag to my friends that I just made $8 million.’

However, this issue became very important during the trial, which decided the issue of custody of the children and Macaulay’s money.

As a result, in 1996 he learned that in total he owned about 50 million dollars. At the same time, at the time when the litigation continued, the family did not have the opportunity to use this money.

‘It turned out that, judging by the bank account, I was a millionaire, but my mother could not even pay the rent, because all the money went to lawyers,’ says Macaulay.

At some point, he realized that he could no longer put up with what was happening, and decided to take the situation into his own hands.

‘We were already going to be evicted from the apartment, and in order to withdraw money from the account,

I had to withdraw my own father from the game. I decided that, in order to avoid further conflicts, I would not transfer them to my mother, but simply take them to myself’.

Thus ended Macaulay’s troubled relationship with his father – now he finally received the long awaited freedom.

He returned to acting only at the beginning of the next century, in 2000 taking part in the production of the play ‘Madame Melville’ in one of the theaters of London’s West End.

In 2003, the actor also made a cameo appearance in the popular comedy series Will & Grace, where he played an eccentric divorce lawyer who assisted Mrs. Karen Walker.

Now he appears on the screen quite rarely, preferring to engage in those projects that are more in line with his own internal needs.

In 2013, he created the rock band The Pizza Underground, and in 2018, a style and fashion parody site called Bunny Ears.

That same year, Macaulay delighted all his fans by reappearing as Kevin from Home Alone in a Google Assistant Christmas ad.

Macaulay today prefers to spend money on chasing dreams, showing little interest in pursuing an acting career.

‘I felt like a very, very tired child from work and then I got a fortune earned by this child. Then there was not much meaning in my life,’

actor Ellen DeGeneres said in 2018. ‘So now everything has become normal for me hobby. I don’t have to earn a living,

so I have the opportunity to do whatever I like write, draw, make a new website, or anything else.’
