A repeat client recently gave a Papa John’s pizza delivery man the biggest surprise of his life by leaving him a sizable gratuity.

Derlin Newey, an 89-year-old pizza delivery man, has gained popularity on the social media app TikTok after Carlos Valdez,

popularly known as @vendingheads, posted a series of videos documenting his joyful pizza deliveries.

When Newey opened his door to receive Valdez’s order in the videos, he would invariably say his catchphrase,

‘Hello, are you looking for some pizza?’ He has quickly become the delivery family’s top option because of how amiable he is.

In fact, they always make a special request for him to bring their pizza whenever they have a yearning for some Papa John’s.

In a TikTok video, Newey joked that he was visiting their home for the thousandth time because they now transact business with one another so frequently.

Many of @vendingheads’ 68.9 thousand followers began to show admiration for the elderly man as they shared more videos of Newey’s delivery on TikTok.

Fans frequently expressed their love for Newey, but many users were perplexed as to why he was still working as a pizza

delivery driver at such a senior age. They were right, Valdez realized; an 89-year-old man shouldn’t be working for that much longer.

Valdez asked his supporters to donate to Newey’s medical fund via his own Venmo account in an effort to use his platform for good.

They believed that they would be able to raise a few dollars, but to their surprise, the TikTok community helped them out. In a relatively short amount of time, they were able to raise $12,000!

Valdez and his wife went to the man’s home in Roy, Utah, the week prior to give the delivery man his

surprise. How are you doing, man?’ What mood are you in? He spoke his words as Newey unlocked the door.

The pair eventually handed him the $12,000 check after some time had elapsed. The two explained to Newey where the money had originated from after he was surprised to see that it was his name on it.

He was unable to comprehend what he had just heard and responded, ‘No,’ ‘Why on earth would you ever

consider doing anything like that?’ He was told by the couple that due of their love for one another, the TikTok community had been good to them.

‘How could I possibly thank you enough?’ He said that while having tears in his eyes. ‘I have no idea what to say,’

In his mobile home, Newey claimed to reside alone. He had to keep working since he couldn’t cover his bills with

just his Social Security payment. He spends about 30 hours a week delivering pizzas to clients of Papa John’s in order to make ends meet.

The source was informed by the Valdez family that they were pleased with their aid and felt that the recipient deserved it.

With all the money Newey has acquired, they have great expectations that he won’t have to work such long hours any longer.
