It’s hard to believe that more than ten years have passed since the death of Patrick Swayze. This legendary actor and singer,

remembered by many for his roles in ‘Dirty Dancing’and ‘Ghost’, will forever remain in our hearts.

Unfortunately, Patrick passed away on September 14, 2009 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

All this time, next to him was his faithful wife, Lisa Niemi, with whom they were married for more than 34 years.

Lisa Niemi released her memoir book Worth Fighting For in 2011. The Daily Mail published an excerpt from this memoir,

in which Lisa shared the last words of Patrick Swayze before he fell into a coma. ‘What did I say goodbye to Patrick?

I said that I love him and he answered me the same. After I took him home, it all ended very quickly,’ writes Lisa.

On Monday morning, she woke up due to the fact that Patrick suddenly began to breathe heavily. She says that it all happened so simply,

almost childishly. Lisa immediately realized that very soon they would part. That very day Patrick died.

10 years after the sudden death of the actor, a documentary film dedicated to him was released. It’s called My Name is Patrick Swayze.

In this film, Lisa shares stories from their life together with the audience. She also talks about how they met many years ago and how she immediately realized that this was true love.

The couple met as a teenager, and in 1975 they got married. Four years later, Patrick got his first role in the film Skatetown, USA.

Together they lived until the death of Patrick in 2009. Lisa Niemi shared with Entertainment Tonight details

about those difficult days when she cared for her husband, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

‘You can’t imagine anything worse, every day turns into a battle, a battle for the life of a loved one.

He also did not give up and continued to fight every day. He lived with this diagnosis for 22 months. It’s just a miracle for a person with such a diagnosis.’

The documentary is dedicated not only to the victories of the actor.He also talks about his long, not always successful, struggle with alcohol addiction.

Lisa says that he was cheerful and cheerful, but only until he was left alone. And then he often just started to go crazy,

so their relationship was far from cloudless. However, Lisa always continued to love him and fight for their marriage.

Lisa said that Patrick decided on a role in the TV series ‘The Beast’ already when he was given a disappointing diagnosis.

She says that this role helped him gather strength. Of course, even then he had to spend a lot of time in bed, but filming in Chicago gave him a huge burst of energy.

‘He had such a surge of new strength that it simply amazed me he suddenly turned into old Patrick, who wanted to do everything himself and was interested in everything.

Lisa claims that this role helped Patrick become stronger and happier, despite his serious illness.

On September 14, 2009, Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer, short of the second anniversary of his diagnosis.
