A young mother came to the fire station 15 hours after giving birth to give up her newborn daughter

In March 2015, a young woman decided to use one of the California laws in order to give her newborn daughter a chance at a better life. Everyone needs to hear this story.

One evening, a young woman with a newborn in her arms approached the entrance to Station 75, a fire station located in the town of Santa Ana.

She rang the doorbell. The door was opened by Daryl Milliot, the local fire chief. Seeing the fireman in front of her, the woman muttered,’I want to give you my child.’

Daryl and three of his co-workers on duty that evening, Michael de Leon, Tyler Greene and Sean Stacy, agreed and took the baby from her, according to CBS Los Angeles.

‘We tried to pull ourselves together and behave like professionals and do our duty,’ said one of the firefighters, Michael de Leon, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Despite all their professionalism, all the attendants soon fell in love with tiny Naomi, who was then only 15 hours old. Naomi was the first child handed over to firefighters in Orange County.

The fact is that in California there is a law on the safe abandonment of newborns, according to which a parent has the right to leave his child in the

fire department or in the hospital within the first 72 hours after birth. In this case, he has the right to remain anonymous.

The law was adopted to protect the life and health of newborn children in connection with the precedents when young parents left them to their fate.

In one such case, a newborn was left alone by a river, half buried in pebbles. Due to such tragedies, local authorities continue to remind the residents of the state about the existence of this law.

Fortunately, the story with little Naomi ended not so tragically. Her mother decided to give her into the hands of firefighters who took care of her future.

And just nine months later, a little older Naomi again visited the same fire station, because the men on duty

that night became unofficial ‘uncles’ for her. That is why they were all present during Naomi’s adoption ceremony.
