On November 21, 2022, Marlo Thomas celebrated turning 85 years old. The famous couple, who have been married for ten years, also celebrated their anniversary with their longtime lover Phil Donahue.

They first met when the ‘That Girl’ actress made a special appearance on Marlo’s talk program in 1977.

The moment that brought them together became known as ‘love at first sight,’ and the couple got married in 1980!

The famous person claimed that they clicked ‘fantastically,’but their first date was awkward because they

were all eyes on each other. The date put them right back where they had begun in their relationship, but the couple ‘hung in there.’

The second time the two went out together, they had a fantastic time, and although though Phil lived in Chicago,

they spoke on the phone at least twice or three times a day and saw each other on the weekends.
Prior to their marriage,

Marlo showed little interest in the organization, but her husband was able to persuade her to join after the nuptials.

How did Phil Donahue persuade Marlo Thomas that getting married was the best decision for her?

‘Why have you never tied the knot, he questioned. I simply don’t think it’s for me, I said.
The actress said, ‘It looks like it’s just a place for one-and-a-half folks,

you know, the one who has the dream and the other person that supports the idea.’ to further explain her point of view.

The actress used the example of her mother, a former successful singer who gave up her profession to settle down and wed the star of the ‘Danny Thomas Show,’ in her statement.

It’s interesting that Marlo started paying frequent visits to the Winnetka, Illinois, home where he raised his four boys just a

few weeks after making an appearance on Phil’s show. The ‘Sunday Morning’ anchor thought that the celebrity’s brand had changed to reflect the reality that she is single and independent.

Like the character she played in “That Girl,” who was more concerned with her career than a potential spouse,

Marlo finally gave in and declared that she had no intention of ever getting married.

She continued by saying that she had made it her mission to symbolize a young woman who was more focused on discovering who she could be

in the world than on getting married. The actress’s attitude made perfect sense because she was a trailblazer in the fight for women’s rights.

Marlo claimed that she was still confused of her beliefs regarding marriage in the year 2020.

She claimed, however, that although she had faith in her own, she did not feel the same way about the institution of marriage.

As a result, she found it challenging to have the uncomfortable topic about marriage with Phil on his program.

The actress reflected on her experience in the union, saying, ‘It was a really huge thing for me to realise that marriage might be a spacious enough space for both my dream and his dream.’

‘I needed to meet the right sort of guy,’ she continued, ‘and the world needed to change a lot, and I needed to change a lot.’

The star and her husband celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary in 2022 after giving their romance a chance, and she did an excellent job.
