Something amazing occurs when people with dementia interact with music or cuddle a baby. When Elinor Hanson, age 89,
gave birth to her newest great-grandson while being held, Connie Lynn Hanson and her family experienced this firsthand.

This cherished woman was initially identified as having dementia years ago, but since the year 2020, her health has only gotten worse.

Connie didn’t think twice to take a photo when Elinor started singing to baby Grayson. The song Elinor chose has a special place in each of her grandchildren’s
hearts since it’s the one she used to sing to them when they were babies, which was heartwarming in and of itself.

Everyone became increasingly emotional as Elinor sang. Even Elinor needed a moment to gather herself.
She smiled as she continued, ‘I’m going to cry.
‘A song my kids know very well,’ Connie wrote on Instagram. ‘I adore you to the moon and back. This evening gave her such joy.
It’s incredible how much the brain can lose but music manages to persist. Music is truly wonderful for memory and healing.
As she tenderly holds and welcomes her newest great-grandson with the wonderful song, remembering its lyrics completely, the grandma with dementia breaks down in tears of delight.
