You never know what you’ll find when you go to one of the biggest retail locations in the nation.
Cassandra Turner Nelson was strolling through the grocery aisles of the Walmart Supercenter in Alpharetta,
Georgia when a different customer whom she had never seen stopped her. Cassandra hadn’t even noticed that she was humming a melody before he approached her.
Donnell Cross claimed that he was inspired to have some fun when he heard Cassandra humming. I’m going over there and messing with this chick, he said, turning to face his friend.

‘I was wondering, ‘Is he going to confront me?’ because if he did, then I was coming for him,’ Cassandra chuckled.
Despite her misgivings, Cassandra listened intently as Donnell spoke to her about singing. Then he asked if she was familiar with Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn’s song
‘If This World Were Mine.’ He continued and began singing in the aisle of canned goods and salad dressing when she said she did.
Cassandra was gracious enough to listen while Donnell began to sing. His singing voice is great and deep, but the song was elevated when Cassandra joined in.
The woman in front of Donnell could not have known that her family has a little history in the music industry at the moment.
Cassandra’s father, the late gospel musician and preacher Norris Turner, performed as a background vocalist at gospel events as she grew up.
When she first met Donnell, she was a worker’s compensation adjuster, but she still loves to sing whenever she gets the chance, even if it means doing it in the middle of Walmart!
As the two sang together like seasoned experts, a crowd began to form. From all throughout the store,
folks swarmed to the unexpected show, pulling out their phones to record this special moment. At the same time, Cassandra worried that they were misbehaving in her brain.

I worried, ‘Are the police going to come grab us?’ she said. We believed we could pull this off when the audience grinned and turned to face us.
The pair laughed together when Cassandra and Donnell completed singing as they discussed how strange and unexpected their duet had been,
but the surprises were only beginning for them. After R&B musician Common posted the tape on his Instagram and Cassandra put it online, they gained popularity online.
Soon Cassandra and Donnell were asked to perform on the Strahan, Sara, and Keke morning program. Invitations to Common’s
concert at the Apollo Theater and an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City were given to the two vocalists at that time.

Cassandra expressed her hope that the video may rekindle interest in this musical style among the broader audience. R&B can be revived, someone asserted. She shouted out, ‘R&B gospel!’
