One of the most cherished parts of the wedding day for many brides is seeing them walk down the aisle to their future spouse.
To express their love to the person who means the most to them, they are starting a long-term commitment.
This is but one of the many explanations for why brides treasure the person who leads them down the aisle.
Brides are traditionally escorted down the aisle by their parents in the United States, typically just the father.
But for Ivy Jurgensen’s once-in-a-lifetime wedding in Washington state, she had to consider how she might pay tribute to all the ‘father figures’ in her life.

On August 1, 2023, Jurgensen told her story to Good Morning America and disclosed that her father had been convicted and given a prison sentence in 2013.
As a result, Jurgensen pretty much shunned her real father and looked for the missing father role in other men.
She made the decision to invite them all to her wedding and have them escort her down the aisle. She claimed that these 15 guys ensured that she was ‘never alone’ throughout her turbulent childhood.
The bride told the newspaper that ‘they have played huge roles in my life, in protecting and providing for me when I didn’t ask them to.’
‘So it was very special for me to honor them and for everyone to see them and who they are to me.’

Good Morning America reported that 15 of Jurgensen’s ‘father figures’ helped her go down the aisle.

Her biological brother, uncles, brother-in-law, coaches from youth sports, and the police officer who had detained her father were among the men who took turns.
Her high school resource officer was one of the 15, and Jurgensen credited him with saving her life when she was a little girl.
The bride claimed that once her real father was sent behind bars, the resource officer was the person in whom she had trusted, disclosing all of the trauma she had experienced growing up.
‘I started to trust my school resource officer, and I realized that he had a big heart, loved his job, and that he really did care about his
students in his school and his community he served,’ she remembered. ‘That friendship I developed
with my school resource officer was essential in helping me begin my escape and search for justice.’
She was even encouraged by her resource officer to pursue a similar profession, and now she helps numerous students in the same way.

Jurgensen chose the 15 men to accompany her down the aisle not only to commemorate them but also because she wanted them to be present when she accepted her husband’s hand.
‘I don’t believe I would be where I am in my life today without them. I’m glad I got to share it with them since it was such a touching and memorable experience, she added.
On social media, the private exchange from July 2023 became viral, with users admiring Jurgensen for her bravery and fortitude.
‘I hope that my tale inspires individuals with their strength. That they can develop the guts to ask for and receive the assistance they deserve and to find their voices again, she added.
