Sally Struthers, 76, raised her daughter after her divorce and looks radiant in a rare interview following a dramatic weight loss.

Sally Struthers rose to prominence after starring in the 1970s sitcom ‘All in the Family.’ Although the program centered on Archie Bunker,

Gloria Struthers, who played Bunker’s daughter, left a lasting impression during its run. In it, she transformed

from a kind but somewhat naive young girl into a reserved and mature young woman. She garnered two Emmys for her performance.

Struthers continued working in film and television after the program ended. She reprised the role of Gloria in ‘Archie Bunker’s Place’ and ‘Gloria.’

She also played Babette in “Gilmore Girls” and lent her voice acting skills to a number of animated programs, including ‘Dinosaurs’ and ‘The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show.’

Struthers also gained notoriety for her charitable work with ChildFund and other organizations; however,

she received criticism for this and is no longer affiliated with the charity. Let’s examine her career and what she has been doing recently.

Struthers started her career in show business when she was just 20 years old. She was born on July 28, 1947, in Portland, Oregon.

She started out with a few little parts, including ‘Five Easy Pieces,’ where she starred opposite Jack Nicholson.

But after being fired from another film, she earned the part that would go on to make her a star.

She claimed to Newsday that because the producers of ‘The Tim Conway Comedy Hour’ didn’t like the dancer part she played, they fired her.

When she told Newsday that they had done that, she said, ‘If they hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have

been free to read for ‘All in the Family.’’ Nevertheless, that defeat was actually a huge victory.

As they say, the rest is history. ‘All in the Family’ made its debut in 1971, and despite a sluggish start,

it eventually rose to prominence and garnered multiple accolades. It had a record-breaking five spin-off shows,

including ‘Gloria,’ which included Struthers’ character but only lasted one season. It had a total run of nine seasons.

But Struthers’ portrayal on ‘All in the Family’ was so admired that it led to her winning two Emmy Awards in 1971 and 1979.

In addition to her work on ‘All in the Family’ and its spin-offs, Struthers expanded her acting career by taking on voice acting roles on a few different programs.

She provided Pebbles Flintstone’s voice in the early 1970s for ‘The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show’ and ‘Fred Flintstone and Friends.’

In the 1990s, she resumed voice acting when she made an appearance in the popular television series ‘Dinosaurs’ and ‘TaleSpin.’

In addition, she made guest appearances on episodes of ‘Tom & Jerry Kids,’ ‘Yo Yogi!’ and ‘Tiny Toon Adventures.’

She most recently contributed her vocal abilities to the program ‘American Dad!’

In the late 1980s, Struthers appeared in the television series ‘9 to 5’, which was based on the same-named film.

More recently, she appeared in the series ‘Gilmore Girls,’ where she played Babette Gill, Lorelai and Rory’s neighbor.

Aside from ‘General Hospital,’ ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch,’ and most recently, ‘Maron,’ a sitcom

in which comedian Marc Maron portrays a fictionalized version of himself, she also appeared in guest parts on these programs.

Struthers has acted in television programs as well as movies and even plays. Among other theater roles, Struthers played Dolly Levi in the 50th anniversary performance of “Hello Dolly!” in 2014.

Struthers rose to prominence for her advocacy in addition to her acting career. She used to be a strong supporter of ChildFund,

formerly known as the Christian Children’s Fund, which fought for the rights of underprivileged children in developing nations.

The cause was famously highlighted in a series of television commercials that Struthers produced in the

1990s and the first part of the 2000s, but they weren’t successful and ended up being made fun of.

Struthers, who has since left the group, admitted on the Marc Maron podcast that a violent encounter she

had while visiting Uganda was ultimately what led to her departure. She claimed that a youngster from the

neighborhood came to visit her and the crew in order to ‘come meet his sponsor,’ who was her. She went on:

A wandering group of guerilla warriors asked him where he was from, and when he said that he was from a remote village, they concluded that we had kidnapped him and were about to shoot us all.

Fortunately, everyone made it out alive, but she had a sudden insight and pondered:

Why am I doing this? My own child, who is genuine, is my only child, and I’m going to make her an orphan. I’m out of options here.

She contributed as well:

In addition, everyone in the world is laughing at me. I was shocked to learn that if you try to feed starving children, you become the subject of awful, cruel jokes. Why is the world so bad?

Struthers’ legacy today is her acting career, which she is still engaged in. Fans were astounded

by the former sitcom sweetheart’s stunning appearance and upbeat demeanor in her most recent video interview.

In July 2023, Struthers appeared in an interview on Australia’s Studio 10 to discuss a moment that has been seared into the memory of many of her fans Down Under.

Back in 1975, Struthers had given one of Australia’s comedic treasures, Norman Gunston, a hilarious interview that showed off her easy-going nature and Gunston’s incredulous wit.

In the side-splitting clip, Struthers is seen barely able to contain herself as Gunston pulled off yet another uproarious mock interview he was famous for back in the day.

‘I’m sure my instantaneous reaction… was that, ‘oh, Australia’s not really sophisticated.’ If this is

their journalist and they sent him… do they even know he cuts himself shaving like that?’ she said in the interview.

Fans who are aware of Struthers’ past will remark that she appeared glowing and significantly slimmer in the interview at the age of 76.

After becoming well-known for playing one of America’s wittiest TV daughters, Struthers fell in love and

wed famous psychiatrist William Rader in 1977. Both were lively people, which made living at home rather interesting.

She and I are both tough, and it can lead to confrontation. But to my wife, I’m a husband, not a psychiatrist.

In 1981, William remarked, ‘I feel like she’s benefited me more than I’ve helped her.
Samantha Radar was the couple’s only child before being divorced in 1983.

In the same 1981 interview, Struthers admitted that she had never intended to have children and that when Samantha was born, she decided that one child was sufficient for her.

She remarked, ‘I’m really amazed women do it again,’ adding that she didn’t “need to be a babymaker.’

Samantha pursued a career in clinical psychology in the same field as her father. She now owns and operates Source Code, a business she started.
