Although the probability of conceiving twins increased by 72% from 1980 to 2018, they are still relatively unusual, occurring in only 33 out of every 1,000 births.

Approximately three to four sets of identical twins are born out of every 1,000 births, making them a rare occurrence as well.

It was a reason for joy when 23-year-old Savannah Combs learned she was expecting twins. But she soon discovered that the twins had Down syndrome, which was yet another unusual occurrence.

Of course, it was a shocking emotional realization. Savannah and her husband Justin Ackerman were aware that because of her illness, some people could judge her and her children.

However, Savannah views her children as being especially precious because of this.
She told News4JAX, ‘What they have is very uncommon, but they have been my little gems.’

Savannah, who is from Middleburg, Florida, shared videos of her postpartum experience on TikTok with her kids, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, where they quickly gained a sizable following.

Savannah mentioned in one of her videos that she had been urged to end the pregnancy since it was thought

that the infants might not live. She did, however, bravely decide to keep them and give them a chance to fight for their lives.

‘Every [prenatal] appointment they were alive was a blessing to me,’ Savannah said.

Savannah’s husband was gone at boot camp when she learned that both of her twins had Down syndrome.

At 29 weeks pregnant, Savannah was admitted to the hospital, where she gave birth to her daughters.

On May 12, 2021, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, who are identical twins, arrived.

The twins had to spend a significant amount of time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) because they were born two months early.

She explained that because they had separate sacs but shared a placenta, they were considered mono di twins and were thus expected to be identical.

As it stands, having twins is quite uncommon. One in two million people have Down syndrome on top of everything else.

Savannah made it clear that her twins are just like any other kid, despite their special circumstance.

They have feelings, she said. Their heart is pounding. They are capable of speaking. They are capable of performing tasks you can. They will arrive.

They could be a step behind, but they’re still going to do it, as I stated. These kids are cheerful and feisty little beings, I’ve learnt.
