Over the years, various Hollywood celebrities have fought cancer, with some succeeding and others fighting until the bitter end.
Many people have bravely opened up over the years about their battles with cancer and their experiences.
Hollywood celebrities like Michael Douglas have also struggled with ageism, short-term memory loss, and cancer.
In an interview with The Guardian in June 2013, the actor was open and honest about the circumstances
surrounding his diagnosis. Later, in 2018 and 2021, E! would discuss his struggles with memory loss.
An accomplished actor and producer, Douglas has appeared in a number of notable movies, including ‘Wall Street,’ ‘Fatal Attraction,’
‘The American President,’ and many others. The actor and Catherine Zeta-Jones have two children together,
Carys and Dylan. Cameron, Douglas’ older son from his first marriage, is another family member.
Douglas was given the cancer news in August 2010 after years of mouth agony. Douglas openly admitted

to The Guardian that oral sex and ‘HP (human papillomavirus)’ were to blame for his throat cancer.
His mouth tumor was missed by other medical professionals, but a tongue depressor was used to find it by a friend’s doctor in Montreal.
At the base of my tongue, the actor said, ‘There was a walnut-sized tumor that no other doctor had seen.’ And he revealed:
I was concerned that my son’s incarceration-related stress might have contributed to its onset.
However, it is true that this cancer-causing virus is transferred sexually. Cunnilingus is also the greatest treatment if you already have it.
It was initially believed that smoking and drinking were to blame for the terminal illness, which the actor shared he did not regret because his cancer was actually caused by something else.
The ‘Traffic’ actor was found to have stage 4 cancer after which he started receiving severe chemotherapy and radiation treatment for eight weeks.
Douglas’ palate was burned during the procedure, but he refused to utilize a feeding tube, causing him to drop 20 kg after being restricted to liquids. He revealed:
That ride is difficult. That can really wear you down. The amount of chemotherapy I was receiving also zaps all the beneficial elements. It made me incredibly weak.
Fortunately, the procedure was successful, and the actor was cancer-free. Additionally, he mentioned that he went to checkups every six months.

The actor from ‘Falling Down’ added that ‘with this kind of cancer, 95% of the time it doesn’t come back.’ Douglas discussed his recuperation. He remembered:
‘I was simply grateful to be alive. I was overjoyed. After overcoming cancer, you experience what feels like a rebirth.
You have a childlike feeling. You have different priorities, he continued. You now appreciate your marriage and kids much more; everything is a little bit brighter and clearer to you.
Mahesh Kumar, a consultant head and neck surgeon in London, reportedly stated in the newspaper that
‘HPV type 16 is the causative agent in oropharyngeal cancer.’ This is also the reason Douglas was given an 80% chance of survival despite the fact that his sickness was advanced.
Douglas later disclosed that he was suffering from short-term memory loss in March 2021. The actor disclosed
that he had memory loss and that it was no longer acceptable for him to be forgetful. He admitted that in the past,
he had believed that using marijuana was the source of the disease. He shared, however, that his inactivity during the epidemic had been difficult for him after doing some study.
Speaking to AARP Magazine, the ‘The War of the Roses” actor admitted that during the COVID-19 time,
he was ‘more couch potato-ing’ and was surprised by how much his stamina had diminished. Added him:
And while my short-term memory isn’t great, my long-term memory is. I once attributed it to marijuana.
However, I have friends who have smoked for as long as I have and have wonderful memories, so I don’t believe that’s the problem. I’m looking into it.
2018’s ‘The Kominsky Method,’ a Netflix series on which he served as executive producer, had its AFI Fest
premiere, and Douglas spoke candidly about how he had accepted his age, as per a People story. He revealed:

I’m old enough to recognize the value of the present moment and to not take it for granted. I’m glad for a good wife, good kids, no issues, and my health, he continued.
The actor also discussed how, prior to taking on the role in ‘The Kominsky Method,’ which extensively explored aging and the human condition,
he had not thought of himself as an aging man. However, he revealed that after reading the script, he discovered he could identify to it, accepting the idea of aging.
