Thomas Rhett was filled with emotion upon first seeing his daughter, Willa Gray. ‘I’ll Never Forget It,’ he said.

Thomas Rhett is reflecting in this scene on the first time he saw his oldest daughter.

While taking part in an edition of the podcast Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon, which is presented by Kevin Bacon, the 33-year-old

country music artist recalled on the first time he saw his daughter Willa Gray, who is now 7 years old.

‘I’ve always thought my wife is the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen in my life, but there was something about

this picture that she was like, glowing man,” Thomas Rhett said, referring to a picture of his wife Lauren Akins,

33, holding a baby at an orphanage in Uganda. Thomas Rhett Jr., the son of the couple, took the photo.

I recall FaceTiming her that evening and asking, ‘Who was that baby you were holding?’ ‘And so was this baby, who I’d never met before.’

This baby, who I had never met before, was also there. It was very plainly stated by her: ‘This is Blessing, and there are no living parents or residents, so she does not have a family.’

‘She has been in this children’s home for a while, and although her name is Willa Gray now, she used to go by the name Blessing

when she was at the orphanage. Additionally, it appeared that she had already been there for a week. According to the girl’s father, ‘She had just turned six weeks old.’

And just now, my wife and I were talking, and she said, ‘We have to find a home for this child.’ And you know what? I’ll never forget that.

It was two in the morning where I was, and I was only partially awake when I said it. It sort of stumbled out of my mouth. We said to each other, ‘We’re taking her home.’

Adding, ‘And I don’t even remember saying it, I don’t even know if I was ready to have kids yet,’ she remarked.

Furthermore, I can’t even recall saying it. I remember thinking, ‘Man, if we have kids right now, what is that going to do?’

I was really loving life on the road, and I had just begun to make progress in my career. Then it was said to Bacon, ‘And I’ll never forget those words coming out of my mouth.’

Thomas Rhett and his wife share four daughters: Lillie Carolina, who is 22 months old; Lennon Love, 3; Ada James, 5; and Willa Gray.

The musician has acknowledged that his daughters have influenced his music over the years, but his kids really contributed more to the creation of his sixth studio album, Where We Started.

In response to a question about the album’s motivation, Thomas Rhett told PEOPLE, ‘I was alone with my thoughts in 2020 and

wrote a lot of songs, just me and the guitar.’ ‘I wanted to write some more things that made my kids smile and made my kids want to dance,” he continued.

‘I started playing the record, and as I went along, I kept track of the songs they wanted to hear again and over again.

‘There were five or six on there that my two-year-old will now be like, ‘Play daddy song, daddy song,’’ he continued.

My 2-year-old will say, ‘Play daddy song, daddy song,’ when we get in the car. And if it’s not one of those six,

no matter whether it’s an old song or a new one, she only cares about those six. Despite the fact that

the music has been around for a while. There can be no doubt that such were recorded as a result.
