While Ree Drummond was experiencing ‘empty nest sadness,’ she decided to make the 16-hour trip to watch her youngest son play football.

Ree Drummond would go to any lengths for her kids, even if it meant making a 16-hour road trip.

The 54-year-old Pioneer Woman actress said on Thursday that she had visited the University of South Dakota to watch her 19-year-old youngest son, Todd, play football for the school.

Ree describes a photo she posted on Instagram with the following caption: ‘In this photo from last Saturday, I am displaying the classic goofy, dreamy,

I-get-to-see-my-kid-for-two-whole-hours empty nest sad-but-happy mom smile.’ ‘(I love you, Todd.)’ she continues.

Ree is seen hugging her delighted child, who is dressed head to toe in football gear, while grinning widely in the photo. Ree is dressed in the school’s red and white colors.

She asks her followers in the caption, ‘Let me know if you get it,’ in reference to the conflicting emotions visible in her grin.

Many readers shared their own personal experiences with having an empty home in the comments section.

‘I fully understand! According to one of my followers, they are ‘going through it now themselves, and it is AWFUL!!’

Someone once said, ‘My guys are in North Carolina and Florida; living without them is the worst thing that has ever happened. They are the to me,’ which struck me as particularly poignant.

Ree responds to these readers’ comments and those of others by writing ‘Hugs’ or adding an emoji of a heart.

‘I travel 45 minutes from my house to a school event for one of my grandsons, and the event frequently lasts less than an hour.

I take a 45-minute drive home after the event. This image accurately illustrates what love looks like in its purest form. Another reader of my blog leaves a comment.

This information is provided by Ree in her response when she states, ‘We drove for 8 hours in each direction.’She said, ‘It’s what we parents (and grandparents) do!’ following that.

Ree, who is also the mother of Alex (26), Paige (23), Bryce (21), and Jamar (21), assisted her husband Ladd (54),

in relocating Todd to his dorm room at the University of South Dakota in January. Paige is 23, Jamar is 21, Bryce is 21, and Alex is 26 years old.

Todd could be seen wearing a red University of South Dakota shirt in the backdrop of a photo Drummond uploaded to her Instagram Story. Drummond was seated in a car when the picture was shot.

She wrote on the photo, ‘Made it to SD yesterday,’ and then attached it. Go Todd, and go Yotes.

Drummond wrote about how her kid decided to enroll at the school just one day after visiting the campus in a post on her blog.

She claimed that as they were making their way back to their home, he ‘couldn’t stop raving about the school and the football program.’

She claimed that he took to the athletic facilities and the coaching staff right away. After that,

Todd had a signing ceremony on December 21, while he and his family were on vacation in Vail.

Later that day, she posted numerous more pictures of their separation with the message, ‘Said bye to our baby today. Even if we tried, we couldn’t love him any more.

She ends by telling her kid to ‘go have an awesome experience and keep bein’ yourself, son.’Utah State, go!
