Suzanne Somers and her husband celebrated 55 years of marriage by writing her a poem the night before she passed away.

After working in Hollywood for many years and finding great success in each of her roles, Suzanne Somers also had a wildly successful personal life that supported her through both joyful and sad times.

The actress had a beautiful family with her long-term husband, to whom she was married for 55 years. Even the addition of grandchildren to the family made the couple ecstatic.

On Instagram, Somers once posted a picture of herself and her husband Alan Hamel. When they first met 55 years ago,

they were both grinning, and they were still grinning on that particular day, she captioned the photo.

In the picture, she and Hamel are seen meeting for the first time many years ago. Hamel put his arm around Somers’ shoulders,

and she grasped his hand as they grinned at the camera. The image on the reverse side shows them a year ago.

Somers disclosed their romance in 2020 after 47 years of marriage. She revealed that the couple still enjoyed their relationship to the fullest and anticipated spending many more years together.

Somers exclaimed that her marriage was “amazing” and that she and Hamel enjoyed having an empty nest now that their children had grown up and moved on with their lives. “It’s just us,” she remarked.

Somers claimed the secret to their long-lasting romance was to pay your partner as much attention as you can when discussing how they were able to maintain it. She revealed:

‘I believe that the reason people enter partnerships is for attention. We constantly pay close attention to one another. I keep praising him all day.’

While Somers agreed that paying attention to her spouse and offering praise whenever she could were

two things that aided her marriage, she also recognized a few other factors that contributed to their success.

Somers Discusses How They Maintain Their Love

Somers frequently discussed her marriage because it was one of the most prosperous ones in Hollywood.

When asked what had kept her and Hamel together through the years, she had a few wise words to share.

She first said that you should keep dating your partner even after getting married and having kids.

She also suggested letting go of the tiny things rather than fighting over them and not scrutinizing everything your partner does.

Even though Somers and Hamel lived happily ever after in later years, Somers said that for the first ten years

of their union, they frequently quarreled and contemplated splitting up until they got it all worked out.

Somers remarked that she had some suggestions for couples who were going through problems they weren’t sure they could get beyond. She suggested:

‘…remember the early days of the relationship when everything was love and respect, sexy and very hopeful.’

The actress revealed that he and her spouse had remained romantically involved for forty years, and she continued to find him to be quite beautiful.

She added that they seldom quarreled or experienced ‘moody days,’ choosing instead to smile and laugh together whenever possible.

Grandparents Somers and Hamel were content.

The children of Somers and Hamel have grown and moved on, but they have added grandkids to the family.

Six of their combined family’s grandchildren belonged to Hamel and Somers, who were grandparents.

When asked what she and Hamel loved most about being grandparents to all of the family’s kids, whether they were their biological grandchildren or not, Somers gushed:

‘You get to fall in love all over again.’

She was also appreciative of the grandchildren’s unconditional affection for everyone, regardless of whether or not their family was blended.

Children don’t know who they are biologically connected to and who isn’t, the actress claimed, because it doesn’t matter to them.

Problems with Somers’ Health

On October 15, 2023, Somers gently died away in her home. Her loved ones were gathering to celebrate

her birthday on October 16 and they were all around her. After battling cancer for a significant portion of her life, she passed away.

After receiving her initial breast cancer diagnosis many years ago, Somers later developed skin cancer.

Her spouse disclosed that she was taking a break from work in July of this year because she had just battled cancer once more.

The actress passed suddenly at the house she and Hamel had lived in together for a long time. Somers’ family announced that they would

celebrate her life rather than her birthday. They also expressed gratitude to the public for the support and affection they were receiving.

The day before Somers passed away, Hamel and Somers, who were passionately in love until her passing, enjoyed a tender moment.

Hamel had made the decision to give his wife the letter a day early, Somers’ spokeswoman revealed. A poem that Hamel had written for Somers was enclosed with the letter.

Hamel expressed his definition of love and his feelings for Somers in the poem, which was written in all caps. In the poem’s conclusion, he wrote:

‘55 YEARS TOGETHER, 46 WERE WEDDED, AND FOR 42 OF THOSE YEARS WE WERE NOT EVEN ONE HOUR APART. Even that is insufficient.

It doesn’t even work if we go to bed at six o’clock and hold hands while we sleep. IT DOESN’T DO IT TO LOOK AT YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE WHILE YOU SLEEP.

I’VE RETURNED TO FEELINGS. NO WORDS ARE USED. ACTIONS DO NOT TAKE PLACE. NO GARANTIES. NONE ARE MADE. 150 years have passed,

and NOT EVEN THE GREEN SHADED SCHOLARS OF THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS HAVE COME UP WITH THAT ONE WORD.

Therefore, I will refer to it as ‘US,’ a UNIQUE, MAGICAL, INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL “US.’According to Somers’ publicist, Somers read the letter as soon as Hamel handed it to her,

and after a contented night of rest, she died in her sleep early on Sunday morning. A Hollywood legend may you rest in peace.
