Have you ever wondered why airplanes are usually white in color? There are several reasons for this.

The livery of the aircraft is a company-specific design and color scheme that helps it stand out.

For example, Southwestern Airlines is known for its planes that have blue, gold, red and orange planes.

As a result, due to its appearance, the aircraft leaves a lasting impression and is well remembered by those who look at it. Later, it becomes easily recognizable.

Painting a Boeing 737 is an expensive and time-consuming process. Brand new aircraft are often referred

to as ‘green’ because they are coated with a green anti-corrosion coating used to protect the aluminum.

This coating should be washed before painting. Please note that each layer of paint must dry for at least 12 hours.

The process takes even longer when work is being done to resell the aircraft. Many companies, such as Virgin Airlines and Japan Airlines, choose mostly white shades, using the color only for lettering and logos.

This reduces the time and cost of completing the painting. But there are also several reasons why most airplanes are white.Read on to learn more.

Airlines can make different planes that stand out from the rest. This is not only an opportunity to represent a company, but also a country or region.

Companies are free to paint and paint their planes however they want, and we’ve seen some pretty creative and bold designs.

New coating from the manufacturer

As we already mentioned, the green color is not a paint, but a temporary protective coating of aluminum.

After some time, the protective coating will dissolve and professional painters will sand before applying the primer.

So here are some reasons why most airlines prefer white.

Using white paint is cost effective

White is clear. It’s affordable and you don’t have to wait for a special order to draw. Also, more paint adds weight, which increases fuel consumption.

Depending on the color, painting can cost up to $200,000, so you can imagine how much you could save. Do not forget that stickers are a separate cost.

Visibility is important

We do not mean that the aircraft should be more visible in the sky. What we mean is that when looking

at an airplane in white, it’s easier to identify potential problems like metal wear and oil leaks.
Companies need to make sure they don’t apply too much paint to avoid compromising safety.

The white paint hardly fades

When you’ve washed your clothes, you’ve probably noticed that dark-colored clothes fade much faster than light-colored and white clothes.

The same goes for dark paint. It is also more noticeable if the paint peels off the dark surface. Depending on the company, on average aircraft painting can last for 5 years.

White paint reflects the sun’s rays, which helps keep the interior of the plane cool, while other colors can absorb it. The best option to avoid body heat is white.

A standard white aircraft has a higher resale value than a colored aircraft.

This is because an aircraft with a color scheme needs more work.Decorative aircraft require more paint, which increases weight and therefore fuel consumption.

Businesses buying brand new aircraft want to maintain quality (especially if the aircraft was purchased on credit), so white is usually more reliable.
