Guy buys a run-down property for $5,000 and transforms it completely.

A particular YouTube video from the “Rehab Life” channel attracted a lot of attention a few years ago. The uploader detailed his experience purchasing an unsettlingly deserted home.

The former owners of this once-bustling house had abandoned it in 2010, leaving behind unpaid taxes for a number of years.

The house subsequently passed back into the county government’s ownership in 2017 because no one claimed it.

It was finally listed as surplus property after spending a further year on the unclaimed property registry.

The YouTuber found this listing in 2019 and, after doing some math on the possible ROI, quickly purchased the abandoned home for just $5,166.16.

His first video demonstrated the house’s eerie condition.

Even in broad daylight, the old, dilapidated edifice appeared frightening due to the overgrown plants that surrounded it.

How could anyone restore such a house, one couldn’t help but wonder.

Unfazed, the owner of the “Rehab Life” channel and his staff started the difficult rebuilding process. He had a full-time job, but he worked on this project on the weekends.

The house needed to be cleaned out of old appliances and other leftovers as their first assignment.

They had only barely begun.

Then they started the harder process of taking out the old cabinets, drawers, doors, and windows.

This not only signaled the start of their laborious work, but also opened the door for fresh air and sunlight to fill the home, paving the way for the metamorphosis.

Every action they took demonstrated their commitment.

They made impressive progress, repairing the damaged flooring (which at one point even sent the owner to the ground),

re-building the porch and the foundation, and putting in new walls, ceilings, and floors.

The outcome was nothing less than stunning.
The property had a total makeover after choosing a fresh coat of white paint.

While the owner did receive assistance along the process, he also made sure to take an active role, demonstrating his excellent abilities in a variety of jobs like cabinetry and tiling.

It changed from being a house that looked like it belonged in a horror movie to becoming a gorgeous, livable dwelling.

The journey did, however, have its ups and downs.

The owner released a depressing update after chronicling his year-long renovation adventure in a series of films (which he eventually combined into one).

After a year of habitation, the tenants abandoned the property in a ruined state. But in keeping with his character, he accepted the task and restored it.

To witness this remarkable metamorphosis for yourself, watch the video below. It has a great kitchen!
