Decades have passed since Henry Winkler first gained notoriety in the 1970s for his depiction of Arthur ‘Fonzie’ Fonzarelli on the popular television series ‘Happy Days.’
Since then, he has had a prosperous career in television and movies, written several best-selling books, and promoted dyslexia awareness.
On October 30, 1945, Winkler was born in Manhattan, New York City. His parents came to the US from Germany before he was born, thus he was raised in a Jewish household.
Winkler had undiagnosed dyslexia as a child, which caused him to suffer in school. His self-esteem was severely
damaged by his teachers’ and peers’ frequent attempts to make him feel stupid. He revealed in an interview with The Guardian:
‘My parents placed a high value on education, so naturally, the thing that was most important to them also
happened to be the most challenging for me. They were harsh and occasionally cruel. I called their pet name Dumm Hund, which means ‘dumb dog.’

For years, Winkler would be affected by the taunts and abuse, to the point where he disclosed that
he occasionally still feels bitter and undeserving. His life was altered by a diagnosis at age 31.
‘I didn’t realize I wasn’t stupid until I was 31,’ he remarked. ‘When my stepson Jed’s dyslexia test came back with a ‘Ding!’ I realized that I was the one who needed to get evaluated.
My three kids are all dyslexic. Thankfully, we discovered it early, but if you miss the signs, a child’s confidence completely collapses, just as it did for me.
Winkler’s early maltreatment had an impact on both his relationship with his parents and his sense of self.
Winkler didn’t have a close relationship with them in addition to being abused. He recalled that he had no prior experience traveling with his parents,
even though other pupils had mentioned doing so. Additionally, he only ever witnessed his mother laugh twice:
first when they playedfully nudged her into a closet and again when she found something amusing in the invention-related paperwork.
The actor gave his kids all of his affection since he was determined not to end up like his parents.
Max’s lone issue, regarding his excessive love, stemmed from the fact that his father instilled in his
children the value of listening and loving. Winkler recollected in a 2019 interview with Reading Rockets:
And I declared that I would do everything over again since the other option is abhorrent. My folks were really strict
not merely rigid. They had no interest in seeing someone who wasn’t compatible with who they were and how that related to their lives.
Winkler adores his grandchildren as well. Being a grandfather has greatly benefited him, even if he never got to meet his grandparents
because they were sent to concentration camps. He discussed his relationship with the kids with Parade, revealing that they are unaware of his current status as a well-known actor.
They’re not old enough. They just know me as Papa,’ he exclaimed.

It hasn’t stopped them from affecting his heart, though. Lulu, India, Ace, Jules, August, and Francis Joan are his six grandchildren.
In 2020, he revealed in a video interview with Good Morning America that Ace, one of his five grandchildren
at the time, had shocked him one Halloween by dressing up as Fonzie from
Happy Days.’ ‘My heart literally flew out of my body,’ the very happy grandfather recalled.

Winkler has a particular place in his heart for his grandchildren, and he has managed to gain access to them as well.
His daughter Zoe told him how her children always looked forward to seeing her and her husband when they dropped them off at her parents’ house or when her parents came over to watch the kids.
In addition to the delicacies they are certain to get, they excitedly anticipate spending time with their grandparents.
A grandchild of Winkler is an avid supporter of his preferred NFL team. In the fall of 2022, the actor went
to his first Kansas City Chiefs game and forged a close friendship with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Winkler’s granddaughter, meanwhile, has an additional reason to like the Chiefs. One of the players on the team is Travis Kelce,
who also happens to be Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. Winkler shared a picture of his granddaughter on October 11, 2023, with the caption, “World’s Biggest Fan of Taylor Swift’s BOYFRIEND’S TEAM.”
Winkler wrote, ‘@tkelce our granddaughter,’ as the photo’s caption.
As evidenced by the fact that he was seen at a game in November 2022 sporting a shirt that said ‘Football, Family, Fonzie,’ Kelce is evidently a fan of the actor.
The photo was deemed cute by fans of both the Chiefs and the actor. A few admirers even thought Winkler and his granddaughter looked similar.
She reminds me of Fonzie! ‘Jenny and the Jets?’ a person questioned.
‘She looks just like Henry Winkler’s female version,’ said another admirer.
A third admirer exclaimed, ‘She’s gorgeous, Henry.’
Totally charming! ‘You’re a lucky man, sir,’ said someone.
Another fan joked, ‘Where do I sign up to be Henry Winkler’s granddaughter? ❤️❤️❤️.”
‘LMAO, too funny 😂
Another fan made a joke, saying, ‘Like, who cares about the player or team, it’s just whoever Taylor Swift is dating gets credit 🤣🤣.’
