The actor’s status as the titleholder was made public on Tuesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live episode.

As he tells People,’I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life.’ ‘Having the recognition is nice,

and it definitely makes my ego feel a little bigger, but it also gives me a platform to use it for good.’

Since 1985, People has been identifying who the ‘sexiest man alive’ is; Mel Gibson held the inaugural award.

Since then, winners of the magazine include Blake Shelton, Idris Elba, Brad Pitt, John Legend, and Harrison Ford.

It was this year that Dempsey’s superb looks and impressive career—which includes professional racing car driving and acting—were finally acknowledged.

‘After being utterly stunned, I burst out laughing, thinking, Surely this is a joke? I’ve been a bridesmaid for all my life!

The father of three, Dempsey, quipped that he “never even contemplated being in this position’ and that he had forgotten all about the prize.

‘My ego is healthy, then.’

He claims that his children are there to bring him back to reality, even if his ego does tend to swell a little.

He claims they ‘just going to pick on me and make fun of me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be.’ ‘That’s good because they keep me young.’
