Two pilots fell asleep while flying an international flight at 37,000 feet, leading the plane to miss its landing.

Fortunately, the two passenger jet pilots who nodded off in the middle of the flight managed to make a safe landing.

On August 15, an incident happened at 37,000 feet while flight ET343 was traveling from Khartoum to Addis Abeba.

At Addis Abeba Bole Airport, the aircraft was scheduled to begin its descent. According to the Aviation Herald, Air Traffic Control attempted, but was unable, to contact the pilots.

The crew finally awoke once the aircraft’s autopilot disengaged and issued an alert.

After the pilots successfully landed the aircraft, it was left to wait for around 2.5 hours on the tarmac before moving on to the next flight.

Data confirms the incident, showing that the jet had overshot the runway and that an alternate approach was made once the pilots were awoken.

Aviation researcher Alex Macheras shared the story on Twitter, stating that the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 #ET343 arrived in Addis Ababa while still at a cruise altitude of 37,000 feet.

‘Why hadn’t it begun descending to land?’ The two pilots were dozing off. ‘Pilot fatigue’ was mentioned, and he called it ‘nothing new.’

The situation stunned a lot of people, who called it “unprofessional” and ‘hazardous.’

A commenter said: ‘Hopefully, the aviation authorities will begin an investigation into this airline’s

crew duty schedules and other matters, and both pilots will be fired!” Thank God nothing untoward occurred.Several users said things like ‘mad’ and ‘this is unprofessional and dangerous.’

However, not everyone agreed that the pilots should be fired; some argued that the company may have ‘covered everything up’ and that the pilots may have simply been overworked.

It comes after another incident in April, when ABC 7 Eyewitness News claims that two additional pilots nodded out.

They were flying from New York to Rome in an aircraft with as many as 250 other passengers.

The two pilots on the April departure from John F. Kennedy International Airport ITA Airways airplane slept off during the journey, according to an investigation into the incident.

As the Airbus 330 soared to 38,000 feet above France, they drifted off to sleep.

Air traffic controllers said that they also stated that they were cut off from the plane for about ten minutes.

In an interview with ABC News, aviation analyst John Nance described the scenario as ‘extremely dangerous.’

‘The plane can still fly on autopilot, but this is not a smart or safe way to fly,’ he stated.

According to an ITA Airways statement, the captain claimed that the radios had stopped working, although he also stated that his actions did not follow the company’s policies.

The pilot was fired, but the plane made a safe landing in Rome despite the incident.
