If your childhood home was anything like mine, your family probably has its own set of traditional Christmas songs that it has collected over the years.
I have a special place in my heart for those ballads that have withstood the test of time and evoke sentiments of nostalgia
whenever they are performed because my parents were more of an old-fashioned Christmas hit enthusiast; songs by Mariah Carey and Wham! were off-limits.
That’s perhaps why, when I first heard Carrie Underwood perform The Little Drummer Boy, a sweet duet with her little son, I felt all warm and fuzzy inside.
The song’s modern version is thought to have been created by Katherine K. Davis in 1941, however the words are said to have originated from a traditional Czech carol.
Like any popular Christmas song, it has benefited from many covers over the years. Artists such as Justin Bieber, Johnny Cash, and Bing Crosby have all created their own renditions.
Everyone has a different favorite rendition of this well-known song according on their personal preferences, but you’re certain to find something you like about them all. There’s a reason it’s considered a true classic, after all.
However, I can’t deny that when I first heard Carrie Underwood’s 2020 song, which was recorded with her then-5-year-old son Isaiah, I was filled with an especially pleasant emotion.
We hope there aren’t many people who don’t know, but for those who don’t, Carrie Underwood is a country music legend who has enthralled and delighted crowds repeatedly over the years.
It would be an understatement to say that her supporters were ecstatic when she revealed back in 2020 that she was releasing an album around the holidays, specifically Christmas.
The album in question was a captivating mashup of Carrie’s own unique songs and beloved Christmas tunes.
The eleventh track—you guessed it—The Little Drummer Boy—is the one that, at least to me, sticks out.
Carrie performed with her son Isaiah, who was the one who took on the task of singing the iconic vocals, in a very special duet. and did an outstanding job.
