Officer Jenkins stopped Chy-Niece Thacker for a regular traffic check, and she was prepared to get a penalty.
However, Jenkins volunteered to lend her a hand instead. Just get your license and registration, he reassured Thacker; there was no need to worry about taking anything out.
‘Your brake lights are not working, and I thought you should know that.’ This perplexed Thacker.
She had just changed her brake lights a month earlier and was now her route to an interview.
Firestone had billed her an exorbitant $600 to simply check her car’s wiring, which she informed Jenkins about.

Astonished by the outrageous quotation, Jenkins requested that she open her trunk. Jenkins attempted to reactivate the brake lights with a little tap here and a tap there.
Thacker found his kindness moving.
Though it would have been easy to write her a ticket, he decided to make sure she was secure.
Later, Thacker wrote on Facebook, ‘He is a blessing,’ touching many people’s hearts with over 388,000 likes and 90,800 shares.

Thacker’s full Facebook post narrated the incident in detail:
“So this happened just now. I’m on my way to go to my interview this morning when I get pulled. Both brake lights decided to go out this time.
As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said, ‘Don’t worry about pulling anything out.
I just want you to know that your brake lights are out.’ So I’m immediately upset because I just got them replaced like last month.
So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car.
He looked at me like [emoji] and told me to pop the trunk. He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn’t come on.
So he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one.
He could’ve easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of officer role and into mechanic role to make sure I was straight. #HesABlessing’

Echoing Thacker’s words, the Henrico County Police shared her images and expressed their appreciation for her moving remembrance.
They wrote on Facebook, ‘We appreciate Chy-Niece Thacker sharing this about one of our officers.’
It makes us extremely proud of our cops, especially when we witness civilians sharing such wonderful things.
Officer Jenkins went above and beyond the line of duty. Our community’s needs are our primary focus.
Seeing officers like Jenkins uphold the genuine meaning of their promise to serve and protect is uplifting.
His deeds serve as a reminder of the enormous influence even a tiny act of compassion can have.
