Following his father’s significant sacrifice, a baby with a rare genetic disorder is given a second chance at life.

Parents frequently go to great lengths to protect their children in spite of the repercussions, especially

when it seems like their lives are in jeopardy. Logan Cook, a brave parent, treated his kid Liam in this manner.

A GoFundMe fundraising website states that the mother, Molly Cook, gave birth to a son, Liam, in March 2023.

At first, they believed everything was fine because the small child appeared to be in good health.

Molly stated, ‘He came out seven pounds, seven ounces, screaming,’ in a September 2023 interview with News11.

However, he was taken to the NICU mere hours later. ‘We noticed his body temp started going down

and they were like, ‘just to be extra careful, we’re going to take him to the NICU,’’ she said.

The infant, sadly, had a ‘extremely elevated ammonia level,’ and in order to preserve his life,

he was taken to the Children’s of Alabama hospital, which was two hours away from his parents’ house.

Liam received therapy for his rare genetic condition, ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) deficiency, including dialysis and intubation.

According to the page’s description, “OTC deficiency is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the lack of the enzyme responsible for breaking down nitrogen in the body.”

The infant can only be treated with a liver transplant, thus even though the procedure was dangerous, it had to be carried out.

Liam described in the interview why their small bundle of joy was so content, saying: He seems like a content little man to me. For the most part, he is happy.’

Based on the results of the tests conducted during the first interview, Liam and Molly were unable to donate their livers to baby Liam. However, months later,

in November 2023, it was found that the little child had grown to the point where he was a match for his father.

After many hours of surgery, Liam and his father returned to Pittsburgh, and the procedure was a huge success.

The family had to stay in the hospital for the following few months, thus the argument was not resolved.

Due to their need to care for their infant, both parents were unable to work. They created a GoFundMe

campaign, and as of December 2023, they had raised over $74,943 from 574 donors—more than half of their $100,000 target.

Since many of the donors were moved by the family’s narrative, some of them expressed their support on the page’s comment section.

‘Liam and I had our baby on the same day. We hope Liam receives the best care possible and that you both have

some much-needed respite from financial obligations and worry so you may concentrate on what matters most,’ one person commented.

‘At 21 weeks, my son Liam passed away. Another said, ‘I’m donating this in his honor and sending you my best wishes for keeping your little Liam alive.’

‘I’m hoping that a contribution may make Logan’s parents feel less stressed. I will be praying for all of them. God bless you,’ someone said.

Another wrote, ‘A good deed, Liam is gonna win!’
