Alzheimer’s patients have shown that music may heal them; this was demonstrated once more when a former dancer heard Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and began to perform.

Throughout her career, Marta C. Gonzalez has given hundreds of performances on Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

She was a prima ballerina in the 1960s. She unfortunately lost those memories to Alzheimer’s, and in 2019 she passed away.

The moment the ballerina recalls her long-forgotten dance routines as she hears a familiar music again is captured on viral camera footage that was shot just before her death.

Marta was filmed by Música para Despertar (Music to Wake Up To), a music therapy organization, prior to her passing.

The group only recently revealed the video. It depicts Marta C. Gonzalez wearing headphones while she listens to Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

Suddenly, her hands start to move elegantly and gently in an expressive way. It’s amazing to watch the former prima ballerina having fun again; she instantly recognizes the tune.

The retired ballerina used her upper body to dance to the routines she had performed years before, even though she was confined to a wheelchair and unable to stand.

It seems sense that as soon as Marta finished her routine, everyone in the room applauded, and she reportedly admitted to her caregiver that she was emotional.

Since Música para Despertar posted this touching film online, it has been shared widely. It’s “the most beautiful video you’ll see today,’ according to Felipe Tristan, associate conductor of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra.
