Some people are not as fortunate as others to have access to a bed, three meals a day, and a cozy home.
This is the reason we should try to be of assistance to those who are ‘down on their luck,’ like the man in this story, whenever we can.
The inspirational tale started with Bobby, a homeless man. He arrived to speak with Rome Police Department Officer Aaron Page while Officer Page was on duty.
In his account, fellow officer Jeff Buckley disclosed to CNYCentral that Bobby didn’t have much in life. He ‘literally had just the clothes he was wearing,’ as the saying goes.
Bobby returned one morning to the surprise of his life, as the department’s police officers saw that it was clear he needed assistance.
In an effort to assist Bobby, four officers gathered some clothing. Officer Page not only gave the homeless man a haircut and shave, but he also gave him new clothes.
The police department’s official Facebook page provided updates on Bobby’s life-changing journey.
‘Bobby mentioned he’d love a warm shower and haircut after some interaction with a man down on his luck,’ the message claimed.
The homeless man with overgrown hair and a beard is depicted in the first picture, where he is dressed in filthy clothes.
Police officers were seen assisting him in donning new clothes and shoes later in the post. Even the buttons on one police officer’s new long-sleeved shirt were closed.
‘We gave Bobby a shower, a shave, a haircut, and an entire new wardrobe of donated clothes this morning.
Bobby couldn’t thank us enough and left looking like a completely different person,’ they continued.
There was also video of him getting a haircut. Bobby’s new hairstyle and outfit, which included pants, an orange jacket,
a striped button-up shirt, and red sneakers, made him nearly unrecognizable in the previous picture.
Officer Buckley told CNYCentral, ‘We are always trying to come up with new ideas of how to help and give back to our community.’
Online users responded to the social media post with hundreds of likes, shares, and comments; the majority of them praised the police department for helping the man in need.
‘May God reward you for helping this man.A person may experience moments when they feel like giving up because they are so hopeless or despondent.
I’m aware that after he departed, this man felt like a Shiny Penny.One person said, ‘God Bless You, City of Rome, New York Police Dept.’

That’s how you police, too! Well done, Rome Police Department. It’s good to see the other side of police work,
and we should see more of it. Hopefully, this will spread to all the agencies in the nation. One person said, ‘Be safe out there and keep up the great work!’
