Mike Brooks, 69, a grandfather, just discovered firsthand how moved we can all get when our meaningful and impactful comments are brought to life.

Mike Brooks had a desire of enlisting in the Army when he was just 21 years old. But he had lost his

hearing in a year due to football injuries he had sustained as a youth. Mike was never able to fulfill his desire of becoming a soldier as a result.

But like most of us, Mike was immensely proud of these courageous young people who gave their lives to defend their nation.

Nobody enjoys going to war, and most people nowadays are aware that the government erred greatly during the Vietnam War.

We can all see, nevertheless, that young men and women who enlist in the military do so with pure intentions and hearts.

Even if we don’t agree with the conflicts our country begins or gets involved in, we can still respect that.

Regarding Mike, he wrote a song that he frequently performed to his kids after learning about a soldier’s experience in Vietnam in the 1980s.

Even just singing the lyrics to the song would make Mike cry when he sung it to his small children. The song had strong emotional resonance.

Mike had a small girl named Chera Willett as one of his children. Chera never forgot how much hearing her father sing meant to her,

even as she grew older and had children of her own. She started crying as she read the words her father had painstakingly written all

those years ago when she came upon the lyrics of her dad’s song one day while sorting through boxes in the garage.

Chera had a brilliant thought. She made the decision to teach Karli Willett, her own daughter, the lyrics.

As a budding singer, Karli was well-prepared to take her granddad by surprise. The girl made the decision to surprise her granddad on Christmas Eve by performing the song.
