Colette Maze is an incredible human being. Not just because of her remarkable longevity, but also because of her continued proficiency as a pianist and the fact that, at the age of 109,
she is releasing her sixth album. The CD, titled 109 years of music, will have compositions by Piazzolla, Schumann, Gershwin, and Debussy, who happens to be her favorite composer.
Collette Maze, who was born in June 1914, was moved by the kids in the apartment above as they played the piano.
Her musicality was acknowledged because both her mother and grandfather were violinists. She enrolled

in the esteemed École Normale de Musique at the age of fifteen. This is a brief documentary on this amazing woman:
Josephmathmusic observes astutely, “Excellent! younger by less than ten years than the composition she performs.
In 1918, Debussy passed away at the age of four. Colette Maze mentioned that Debussy resided close to her family’s house to Pianote.
She even thinks she might have run across him in the neighborhood when she was younger. Claudette trained under some of the most prominent music educators of the day at the École Normale de Musique,
including Alfred Cortot, Georges Dandelot, Jeanne Blancard, and Nadia Boulanger.Sadly, Colette Maze had a challenging home life.
Her parents did not want to let their daughter pursue music as a career, despite the fact that she received the best instruction in the field.
Colette’s practice time was severely limited because she was not permitted to stay in the family apartment by herself due to their strictness.
She was therefore able to pass the teaching level, which is the second-highest level, but was unable

to advance to the performance level. Observe and be amazed as Colette portrays Debussy at the age of 108:
Colette Maze began her career as a music teacher at a difficult time between the wars, when earning a livelihood was difficult.
It was even difficult throughout the war. She became a single mother after World War II and raised her son Fabrice.
Colette suffered as a piano instructor raising her child alone because her parents wouldn’t support her.
It’s interesting to note that Colette was convinced to begin recording music by her son, Fabrice.
Not only did Fabrice want to carry on his mother’s legacy, but Colette was perhaps the only pianist alive who had mastered Alfred Cortot’s revolutionary piano technique directly from the master.
At the age of 87, Colette Maze published her debut album, Préludes 1er livre/Preludes 1st book. Un Siècle avec Debussy,
or A Century with Debussy, her sixth album, was made available in 2021. She is currently publishing her sixth album at the age of 109, as I have previously indicated.

Colette Maze continues to spend four to five hours each day on the piano. Since she was eighteen, she has resided in the same apartment on the fourteenth floor with a view of the Seine.
She has two pianos: a Steinway baby grand and a Pleyel, which was a present for her eighteenth birthday and is Frédéric Chopin’s preferred brand.
Colete Maze stated in an updated interview with Pianote on June 26, 2023, ‘Music is my food, my breath, and my reason for being.’
I tune into the forces of life by picking up the piano as soon as I get up. It’s a routine. That has always been the case. Our bodies circulate blood, and my soul circulates music.
It resembles necessary nutrition. Fabrice jokes that his mother can’t survive without cheese, chocolate, and a nice glass of wine in addition to music.
