After meeting at their class reunion, two former high school sweethearts tie the knot at the age of 88: ‘Let’s Get Started’

Earlier this month, Elaine Hall and Roland Passaro got married in Palm Coast, Florida, in the presence of their kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren.

Seventy years after they first formed feelings for one another, two 1950s classmates have recently tied the wedding.

In Palm Coast, Florida, this month, Elaine Hall and Roland Passaro exchanged vows in front of their children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren.

On Thursday, they talked to the Washington Post about their decades-long union. The newlyweds, who are both 88 years old,

grew up blocks apart in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and went to middle and high school there together.

Though they only chose to get married a few months ago, they eventually got back together in 2003 during their high school class’s 50th reunion.

Passaro, 88, told the Post of his boyhood sweetheart turned wife, with whom he used to dance at YMCA celebrations,

‘in today’s parlance, you would say, she was hot.’ ‘She knew the answer to every question and was the smartest girl in the class.’

Hall continues, recalling the former high school athlete, ‘Roland was as handsome as could be, he was the star player, and all the girls liked him.’ ‘But it was nice that he liked me.’

Passaro eventually got married, had kids, played professional baseball, and eventually worked for a Miami airline,

despite his admission that he was ‘too young to go steady with anyone at that age,’ according to the Post.

Conversely, Hall remained in her hometown, worked for the Morning Call newspaper, got married and divorced, brought up her three children, and eventually retired at the age of sixty-six.

John Passaro passed away the year before, and Suzanne Passaro, his first wife, passed away following a four-year fight with cancer.

Passaro and Hall reconnected in 2003 during their high school reunion, which Hall remembered Passaro’s family ‘talked him into’ attending.

Hall stated to the Washington Post, ‘That night, there was an attraction between us.’ ‘He leaned over and kissed me when I went over to say goodbye.’

For months, the two communicated via phone and writing; Hall referred to this period as a ‘magical time.’

After a Christmas visit, Hall eventually relocated to live with her partner in Miami, according to the site.

‘We both value our families,’ Passaro remarked. “Devoted to our children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren.’

James Passaro, the son of Passaro, told the outlet that his parents are ‘so adorable at the golf course,’ where Hall tells Passaro where his ball falls because he ‘can’t see very well.’

Hall also described Passaro as her ‘rock, through the toughest period of my life,’ in an interview with the Washington Post following the 2021 death of her 67-year-old son Robert Hall.

It wasn’t until October 2023 that they decided to tie the knot, with Passaro saying ‘Let’s do it’ in response to his soon-to-be wife’s question about why they hadn’t.

The March ceremony was held at the Grand Haven Amenities. James and Ron Passaro escorted their father down the aisle, while Elizabeth Zakeosian and Patricia Beals, the daughters of Hall, escorted her.

A granddaughter organized the wedding, which James Passaro called a ‘good climax to a great love story.’

‘Kansas City,’ a popular song from the 1950s, was the song the couple danced to for the first time when they got together.

They expressed to the Washington Post that they will always hold ‘a special place in our hearts for our first big crush’.

‘One of the things about growing older is that people don’t remember you from your younger years,’ stated Hall.

However, Rollie was the energetic young man who could throw a ball as far as the eye could see in my memory.

Passaro continued, ‘And I can say that she’s just as beautiful and exciting today as she was when she was 15 years old.’
