Seann and Ginny cannot boast of good material wealth.They have a small house with a plot with only three rooms.There is no place even for a pet.

One bedroom is occupied by a student-daughter, the second by a son and daughter-in-law. This is how a big friendly family would live if one day misfortune had not knocked on the small house.

Sean’s parents lived together for more than 60 years and did not need outside help. But age is taking its toll: George has dementia,

and Bonnie could no longer care for her husband because she had recently broken her hip and was not yet

able to move without a stroller. The old people could no longer rely on each other and needed help.

Ginny suggested that her husband sell the old people’s house and their own in order to look for more spacious housing with enough room for everyone.

Sean looked for options for a long time, but there was still not enough money. There was only one way out

to send the parents to a nursing home and visit them there as much as possible. This thought made my son feel a pang in his chest, because it was akin to betrayal.

Why should he send his father and mother to an almshouse, where they will have to live in different rooms?

Old people are so attached to each other that they will lose the meaning of life if they are separated.

While Jenny was trying to negotiate a loan with the bank, Sean found a way out of the situation. With his own hands he will make a separate room for his parents, but in his own home.

A recreation room was equipped in the basement. There was a billiard table and two sofas. The large room needed to be insulated

and renovated. The money from the sale of my parents’ house was just enough for reconstruction.

Sean not only built a toilet and shower in the basement, but also installed a small kitchen.

Now this is a full-fledged apartment, into which the son and daughter-in-law can drop in at any time to help the elderly.

It has everything for George and Bonnie to comfortably spend time next to their beloved son and grandchildren.
