Richard Gere honored his ‘extraordinary’ 100-year-old father by naming his son after him

Richard Gere and his father have always had a unique bond because of the values and beliefs that his father instilled in him when he was a young child.

Richard’s reputation for charm is understandable given that he was one of Hollywood’s most well-known heartthrobs in the 1980s and 1990s.

Richard was raised in Syracuse, New York, but was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 31, 1949. Richard’s mother, Doris Ann Gere, was a homemaker, and his father,

Homer George Gere, was an insurance agent, according to an interview Richard did in 2002 for the television show ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio.’ In 1939, Richard Gere was born.

Richard is descended from pilgrims who came to New England on the Mayflower, according to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants’ lines of John and Elinor Billington and William and Mary Brewster.

Richard even thought that Homer and Doris, Richard’s parents, were‘extraordinary’ individuals. In a 2007 interview, he described his parents as ‘wonderful people’ to the Independent.

Despite their limited financial resources, the actor claimed that his parents always managed to give him and his brothers the best things in life.

He remarked, ‘They found a way to make that happen and they gave me, my four brothers and sisters, and myself enormous opportunities in terms of education, in terms of music,

and in terms of anything we had an inclination towards.’ ‘They provided me with countless opportunities in terms of learning, music, and anything else we were interested in.’

We didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so the tremendous amount of scrounging that was necessary to gain an education and have access to music professors was a result of this, he added. ‘They located the instructors.’

Richard has always taken great satisfaction in the fact that his father volunteers for Meals on Wheels.

Over the course of his career, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor has even taken part in several Meals on Wheels campaigns encouraging others to volunteer as well.

He even went so far as to assist his father in delivering lunch back in 2018.He was always there to help his neighbors when they needed it.

In 2018, Meals on Wheels posted a video in which Richard said, ‘Now at the age of 84, he’s still there.’ During that same year,

Richard and his father Homer sat down to discuss the history of Meals On Wheels and the impact the organization has had on both their own and other people’s lives.

Richard took a journey down memory lane with his father, Homer.‘I recall my father.’ You and your mother were gifted this hatchback automobile.

When I said to you that I would be pleased to give you the money so you could buy a really nice car,you said, ‘Well, no, this works for me.’

It astonished me to hear that answer. Why, I asked? Richard remembered seeing this in another of the organization’s videos. Richard responded, ‘Because it’s the ideal height to put the meals in.”

Richard was curious about the moment his father considered submitting an application for the Meals on Wheels program.

‘There seemed to have been an abandoned home,’ Homer stated. We started the Meals on Wheels program at that point. As people grew older, their demands evolved, and so did our commitment to satisfying those needs.

The award-winning actor continued by saying that his father’s interactions with others encouraged him to pursue his love of helping those in need of meals. However, his father had the following to say:

It’s hard not to feel good about yourself when you see someone else get anything from your life. That seems to be the way things are.

Even when Richard was very young, his father taught him the importance of assisting others at a young age.

In a 2019 interview with Page Six, Richard stated, ‘He’s one of those people that his entire life… whenever someone else was suffering he was there to some degree.’

‘He’s been one of those people his whole life,’ Richard claims that his father always made it a point to help people whenever he could, regardless of whether he had any money on him.

Richard said, ‘I was surrounded by that my entire childhood—if he didn’t have money, it was a smile or an embrace or whatever he had to help out.’

Pastabilities shared on Instagram that Pasta’s was the venue where Richard Gere spent tonight celebrating his father Homer Gere’s 100th birthday. ‘Tonight, Richard Gere visited Pasta’s to commemorate his father’s 100th birthday’

Homer has previously offered his time for a number of causes, such as Meals on Wheels and his hometown’s fire department.

Following the demise of his mother Doris in 2016, the actor has made it a point to regularly travel to North Syracuse to stay in touch with his father.

By naming James Jigme Gere, his only child with his ex-partner Carey Lowell, Homer, Richard dedicated his love for his father to eternity. Richard decided to name his only child after his father,

as if his affection for him wasn’t evident enough from his confirmations during several interviews. Jigme means ‘fearless’ in Tibetan, and Richard and Lowell’s fathers are Homer and James.

his son was given both of his fathers’ names by Richard and Lowell. The Dalai Lama, the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhism, has a worldview that both of them find interesting.

Presently, Richard continues to be a loving and devoted parent to all three of his children, including the two he has with Alejandra Silva, his current spouse. He actually inherited it from his father!
