You are going to get chills from listening to the acappella version of “You Raise Me Up.”

It’s no secret that most of us understand music as if it were a foreign language. Music has been an integral part of human society for almost as long as there have been ears to hear it. It may arouse strong emotions and have a dual role of inspiring and influencing.

Even while musical tastes can fluctuate, certain songs are genuinely ageless, continue to have an impact, and are still appreciated decades after they were originally composed.

You know, one of the best things about music in particular—and songs in particular—is how different every artist’s interpretation is from the next.

If someone is looking for an example of this, they only need to look as far as You Raise Me Up, the well-known hit that was first published in 2001 and has subsequently been recorded by artists such as Josh Groban (2003) and Westlife (2005).

It’s likely that you’ve heard the song—if not, you certainly should—and its enduring popularity is demonstrated by the fact that more than 100 artists have supposedly covered it.

Readers may not be familiar with Brigham Young University’s Vocal Point’s interpretation of this well-known ballad, but it is undoubtedly one of the most exquisite and melancholic.

BYU Vocal Point is an acapella group consisting of nine members that was established in 1991 by Dave Boyce and Bob Ahlander, who were BYU students at the time.

The group achieved remarkable success on campus very quickly, and they even finished fifth in the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off.

The group announced a record agreement with Decca Gold, the classical label owned by Universal Music Group, in 2018. One of the group’s members, Jason Bromley, stated:

‘We’re just regular college students doing amazing things.’ Now enjoy their rendition of You Raise Me Up,

which is a true celebration of their undeniable talent and capacity to use music to evoke powerful emotions.

The trio can be seen traveling over a mountainous region in the music video for the song, seamlessly combining their voices and harmonies to genuinely amazing effect.
