For a couple of police officers, it had all the makings of an ordinary night in East Boston until they received a call regarding a wellness check following a worried citizen’s 911 call.
But after gathering all the information, they saw that the caller was more worried about a special occasion that was about to pass—he was turning 25 years old, but no one was present to celebrate—than about his health.

At first, Officer Israel Bracho and his colleague Frank believed the call to be a hoax. After making sure it was real, they became excited and headed to a bakery to get supplies for the job, including muffins and candles.
Officer Bracho said WPRI, ‘My mother raised me right; if I didn’t, she would have killed me.’ The officers cheerfully inquired the man with special requirements,
whose needs were not disclosed in the press, his name, and his anticipated age, as he shyly answered the door.

Chris was his name, and he was about to turn twenty-five. Chris enquired about their age from his partner Frank as Bracho was lighting the candles.
He answered, ‘Aw man, we’re old—we’re about 40.’ With candles lit, the two start singing their birthday song.
When they’re done, Chris, who had been restless and tense up until then, breaks down in tears of happiness and appreciation, giving the cops who had saved his night hugs.
When asked if he needed anything more, Chris responded, ‘This is more than I could ask for,’ waving at the muffin.
