Building homes out of shipping containers, tiny houses, and buses is an unusual building style that is becoming more and more common.
These unique and affordable substitutes provide similar comfort levels and a wide range of customization choices. Jo Ann Ussery, on the other hand, started this trend long before it was popular.
Following the 1993 destruction of her home in Benoit, Mississippi, she set out on an incredible journey to transform an outdated Boeing 727 into a stunning and completely functional home.

Ussery’s business endeavor started when her husband unexpectedly passed away, leaving her and her two kids in need of a new place to live.
Her father-in-law, Bob, an air traffic controller, introduced her to the unusual concept of living in an airplane.
At first, she was thinking of buying a trailer because of budgetary limitations. Ussery, intrigued by the idea, went to see the dismantled Boeing 727 and was mesmerized right away.
Taking inspiration from Donald Trump’s own Boeing 727, she gave her new pet the loving name ‘Little Trump.’
Ussery took on the demanding task of converting the airplane into a distinctive and cozy dwelling with perseverance and inventiveness.
She started the project with a $30,000 budget, which is about $60,000 today. She put a lot of time and money into it.
Ussery carefully positioned the aircraft on her land with its nose facing a gorgeous lake and secured the tail with concrete supports to ensure its stability during the modifications.

She laid the framework and then started tearing apart the 1,500-square-foot airplane. With over 76 windows letting in plenty of natural light,
Ussery made significant architectural changes to the aircraft, putting particular emphasis on better insulation and fresh flooring throughout.
She also added space-saving features to the bathrooms and storage facilities, creating a gorgeously designed living environment that made the most of the limited square footage.
Ussery converted the airplane into a comfortable house with three bedrooms, a living room, a fully functional kitchen, and even a laundry room after undergoing substantial renovations.
Her attention to detail was evident in the unexpected comforts she added, such ovens and telephones.
The master bathroom, with its breathtaking vistas, is the pièce de résistance. Tragically, the aircraft was destroyed in an accident that occurred during a brief flight, despite the amazing makeover.
But Ussery’s legacy endures, enthralling and motivating others with her trailblazing attitude and outstanding accomplishment.
