Setting a Guinness World Record, the Florida Chihuahua is the oldest living dog in the world.

Meet 23-year-old Chihuahua Toby Keith, who was officially certified to be the oldest dog alive in the world on January 9, 2001.

Gisela Shore, Toby Keith’s owner, has had him for the majority of his life after taking him from a shelter. Gisela told Guinness World Records,

“I was a volunteer at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue and one of the staff members told me about an elderly couple trying to surrender a puppy because they could not take care of him any longer.”

“When I met the old couple, I got to meet their tiny tan Chihuahua. He was called Peanut Butter by them.

Later on, I gave him the name TobyKeith. Toby Keith frequently goes for walks with Gisela’s 28-year-old umbrella cockatoo, Coco, with whom she has a deep bond.

Other than that, he likes to take short walks, eat turkey slices, and lie next to Gisela’s desk as she works from home.

On the day Guinness verified the news, Toby Keith celebrated being crowned the world’s oldest dog by getting his nails clipped, getting a bath, and enjoying his favorite indulgence—a car ride.
