Madonna has stated that she wants to meet with Pope Francis and that it is wrong that the Catholic church has ‘excommunicated’ her ‘three times.’
The singer has struggled with Catholicism for a very long time. In 1989, the church forbade her ‘Like A Prayer’ music video because it included a unacceptable image of Jesus and burning crosses.
Roberto de Mattei, an Italian Roman Catholic historian, declared at the time that the movie was offensive because it showed immoral behavior within a church (via The Independent).
Additionally, Madonna’s ‘Blond Ambition’ tour was previously canceled in Italy, and Pope John Paul II urged followers to do the same. After a fake hanging was performed during a concert in Rome in 2006, she was subsequently criticized once more by the Catholic Church.
That was noted by Cardinal Ersilio Tonino, who said, ‘This time the boundaries have actually been stretched too far. This performance is an awful disrespect to religious belief and a profanation of the cross. She needs to be removed.
Yesterday (May 5), Madonna urged the Pope to make amends in a new tweet, writing: ‘Hello @Pontifex Francis – Good Catholic that I am. My word! I promise not to swear! ‘I haven’t made a confession in a while. Would a meeting to discuss some crucial issues be possible someday?
In February 2020, Madonna’s 2019 song ‘I Don’t Search I Find,’ which was included on her ‘Madame X’ album, helped the singer reach the top of the US Dance Club Songs chart for the 50th time. Madonna is the first and only artist to have 50 number ones on a single Billboard chart thanks to this accomplishment.
