According to Tom Brokaw of NBC, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s romance started during the Robert F. Kennedy Tennis Tournament in 1977.

The journalist introduced the two during the event, and things quickly developed into a romantic relationship.

After nine years of dating, Shriver accepted Arnold’s engagement in August 1985. Less than a year later, on April 26, 1986, they were wed at the Kennedy estate in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
