Both Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are regarded as two of the most iconic characters to ever appear in an action film and were at the height of their popularity in the 1980s.
Even though they get along better these days, there was a time when they were fierce competitors in Hollywood.
They were always trying to one-up each other and see who could be the best action hero. But Stallone has only now revealed some shocking information about his former adversary.

Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger transformed the public’s conception of what a Hollywood action star should
look like by starring in groundbreaking television shows such as Rambo and Terminator in the 1980s.
‘The ’80s was a very interesting time because the definitive ‘action guy’ had not really been formed yet,’
Stallone remarked in the new Netflix docuseries Arnold. ‘Action guy’ refers to a male performer who engages in action-oriented roles.
‘Up until that time, action consisted of a car chase like the ones in Bullitt or The French Connection, and a film that was all about intellect and innuendo and verbal this and verbal that.’
According to Stallone, 76, that began to change with the release of his film First Blood in 1982, which was the first picture to feature his John Rambo persona.
According to him, this new type of action movie placed a greater emphasis on the use of physicality: ‘You actually relied upon your body to tell the story,’ Stallone stated.
“Because no one else was doing this… I recognized that there was an opportunity,’ you said.
‘Except for that other guy from Austria, who doesn’t need to say much,’ he continued, referring to Arnold Schwarzenegger, who doesn’t require much explanation.

Both actors were competitively pushed to outdo each other’s hits as a result of their strong rivalry, which began between Stallone and Schwarzenegger.
At the time, it appeared as though there could be only one king, despite the fact that both of them had reached the pinnacle of their careers and are now regarded as legendary action heroes.
‘Like Ali and Frazier, or great warriors that are traveling the same course: There was only room for one of us,’ Sylvester Stallone says in the documentary. ‘There was only room for one of us.’

Even though Sylvester Stallone was shaken by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s success with films like The Terminator and Commando,
Arnold Schwarzenegger was just as eager to surpass Stallone’s achievements.
‘Every time he came out with a movie like Rambo II, I had to figure out a way of now outdoing that,’ Arnold Schwarzenegger said. ‘I had to figure out a way to now outdo that.’
‘We were competing about everything, from the body being ripped and oiled up to the question of who is the most cruel.
Who is the more courageous? Who uses bigger knives? Who uses bigger guns? Sly and I were at each other’s throats.’

In one incident, Schwarzenegger even utilized their conflict to deceive Sylvester Stallone into acting in one of the worst movies of his career,
which was the comedy flick Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot! Sly agreed to participate in the project after Schwarzenegger claimed to be enthusiastic about it.
‘I had heard Schwarzenegger was going to do that movie and I said, ‘I’m going to beat him to it,’’ Stallone remarked
in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter from the previous year. ‘I think he had it in for me all along.’
Schwarzenegger stated unequivocally, ‘It’s one hundred percent true.’ In those days, in order to get an advantage in our competition, we engaged in a wide variety of questionable practices.
However, many years after their bitter competition, Stallone made a startling admission: Schwarzenegger was the more talented actor.

‘He was better. In the documentary, Stallone claims, ‘He just had all the answers. He had the body. He was strong enough. That was who he was.
‘He wanted to be number one,’ Sly continued. Unfortunately, he arrived.
Despite their rivalry as action stars, Stallone claims they were playing different types of characters:
Stallone portrayed characters who would frequently have their ‘asses kicked,’ whereas the former bodybuilder portrayed heroes who were more superhuman and indestructible.
He was never seriously wounded. ‘Arnold, you could go out and fight a dragon and you’d come back with a Band-Aid,’ I say. said Stallone.

Years after their rivalry peaked, both performers have matured, and they’ve even grown close. In movies like Escape Plan and The Expendables movies, Stallone and Schwarzenegger acted together.
Stallone told the Hollywood Reporter that Arnold is ‘very wise and he loves to talk about philosophies
which have got him to where he is.’ It’s beneficial to speak with a man who has succeeded in putting his money where his mouth is.
He claimed that they also take pleasure in ‘laughing at the old times’ and ‘goofing off and being crazy.’
The days of their being Hollywood’s go-to action stars are long gone, and Stallone referred to himself and Schwarzenegger as “the last two tyrannosaurus.”
There isn’t much beef left, and we’re the final two meat eaters. So let’s have fun together,’ Stallone remarked.
