A homeless man’s life dramatically changes after returning an engagement diamond worth $4000.

Billy Ray, who was once homeless and lived in Kansas City, asked passersby for spare cash, and as a direct result of one act of compassion, his life dramatically improved.

While passing by at the time, Sarah Darling put some change in the cup that the man, who was then 55 years old, was holding.

However, when she stumbled and spilled the cup, she also managed to lose her engagement ring.

A few days later, Harris decided to return the ring to the woman even though he had thought about

selling it to generate some more cash. He was told the ring was worth $4,000, which was its estimated value.

In response to the thoughtful gesture, Harris stated, ‘I am not trying to claim that I am a saint, but i am not the devil either.’

As a token of their thanks for Harris’ aid, Darling and her husband, Bill Krejci, organized a fundraiser for him with the goal of helping him regain his financial footing.

After hearing from several people whose hearts had been moved by the story and who expressed a wish

to help Billy Ray, Darling said: ‘We decided that our objective should be $1,000, so we organized it.’

The fundraising effort gained a ton of support and ended up generating over $190,000 in just under three months.

When Harris first acquired the funds, he sought legal counsel right away, and the lawyer helped him put the funds into a trust.

Since that time, Harris has been able to purchase a car and even make a down payment on a house.

Not only that, but when he appeared on television, his family members who had been searching for him for 16 years and had heard rumors that he had passed away were able to find him.

Harris is now focusing on his relationship with them after their joyful reunion, including his relationship with his nieces and nephews,

whose existence he was absolutely unaware of. ‘When I think about the past, I’m just grateful that it’s over,’ he remarked. I finally feel like a human, to be specific.
