In order to visit his grandmother, a young boy hikes the 1700 miles from Sicily to Britain in just 93 days.

Romeo Cox, 11, made the decision to walk from Italy to Britain, stopping in Switzerland and France along the route, in order to be with his 77-year-old grandma Rosemary.

Romeo’s grandma still resides in the United Kingdom, but since his family moved to Italy approximately a year ago, Romeo has not been permitted to visit her.

He had planned to see her in the late spring, but he wasn’t ready for the massive airline cancellations brought on by the pandemic outbreak.

Romeo was looking forward to finally being able to give his grandmother another hug when they got to Britain.

He felt complete and utter sadness after learning that the outbreak had led to the cancellation of every flight between Italy and Britain.

Romeo’s parents first opposed his plan, but he begged them to change their minds after they saw how worried he was about his grandmother.

On June 20, Romeo and his father left Italy on foot for Britain, passing through Switzerland and France en route. Before arriving at their destination, the two traveled 2,735 kilometers over 93 days.

When they first arrived in France, they donated their services to refugee-specific organizations and raised more than 13,600 pounds, which is around 17,443.15 dollars in American currency.

Grandma Rosemary rushed out of her house to meet Romeo with wide arms because she had been waiting so long to see him.

Romeo claimed that their embrace was the best one they had ever had. Rosemary replied, ‘It feels so very nice

to see Romeo make special travel arrangements to be with me. Children have the power to inspire us.
