The couple believed they were adopting a 6-year-old daughter, but she was actually a grown-up lady. How it possible? Details below

Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. In 2010, a couple adopted a child with the intention of expanding their family.

For each of them, it would have been a dream come true, but it descended swiftly into something we typically only see in movies.

In 2010, a Florida couple adopted a child from Ukraine.

Natalia was adopted by Kristine and Michael Barnetts when she was just six years old. Before finding a family, the child was cared for by several different foster families.

Natalia is smaller than her age due to a form of dwarfism that she has. The Barnetts did not view this as a

problem and proceeded to meet her needs and incorporate her into their five-person family. But when Kristine tried bathing Natalia, everything changed.

Soon after beginning, she got up and left the restroom, dragging her spouse behind her. Then, in fear, she clarified that Natalia might not be entirely telling the truth.

She possesses physical characteristics that only puberty-aged girls can have. They understood that she was older than she appeared to be and that her dwarfism might have made her delusional.

‘A woman, Natalia, was. She had her periods. She possessed adult teeth. According to the Barnetts, who were

quoted by the BBC, ‘She never grew a single inch, which would happen even with a child with dwarfism,’

The Barnetts later asserted that Natalia intended to murder their family. Michael claimed that Natalia supposedly attempted to poison Kristine at one point.

Additionally, the couple claimed that Natalia intended to stab the entire family as they slept. The plot then abruptly turned in one direction after another.

She was truly six when the Barnetts took her in, but they didn’t want to believe it.

The couple filed a lawsuit 2 years after Natalia was adopted, asking the judge to modify Natalia’s birth year from 2003 to 1989.

According to Kristine, Natalia may have been around 14 years old in 2010 based on the results of her bone tests. Then they forced her live alone in a furnished, paid apartment for a year.

Natalia reported that she had been abandoned to the police in 2014. Without Natalia in the picture,

the family relocated to Canada in order to start their lives over there. The marriage quickly ended in divorce.

When Natalia appeared on Dr. Phil, she refuted all of these accusations.

She claimed that even though she had accidently wounded another child and had been sent back to the

orphanage, she had no desire to harm the Barnetts. For her, they represented the ‘ideal family.’

Currently, Natalia resides with Antwon and Cynthia Mans. The couple estimates that when they adopted her, she was 16 years old.

When a couple claimed they were duped, observe how this adoption became the subject of a movie storyline.
