Back in 2017, an English mother, Imogen Scott, thought about giving her son Marshall a very special fourth birthday.
Since he was crazy about the royal guard, she took him to Windsor Castle, and the good guard made the boy’s day all the more memorable.

Little Marshall Scott idolized the soldiers from the royal guard. Before visiting Windsor, he dressed in his
own Coldstream Guards uniform, a red coat and a tall bearskin cap. He looked so adorable that tourists asked if they could take pictures with him.

At Windsor Castle, the Scotts watched a squadron of guards walk into the guardroom during the Changing of the Guard ceremony.
The little boy greeted the soldiers, saluting them as they passed.
It seemed that Marshall was able to get as close as possible to his heroes but then one of the guardsmen failed.
He called the child, and Marshall stood beside him, saluting. The guardsman turned to face Marshall, took a few high steps in place, and then turned and walked into the guard room.

Evening Standard journalists managed to find out that Lance Corporal Edden turned out to be a good guard.
During the interview, he explained why he went out of line for the sake of the boy.
‘Usually I just go with the guards to the guardhouse but my wife and I are expecting a boy,
and I remember standing at Edinburgh Castle when I was little, hoping to take a picture with a soldier.’
The corporal was also touched by the boy’s guards uniform and noted that it made him proud to be a soldier.
