Bear Grylls spoke with him in July 2023, and he said that he hoped his child would learn from his mistakes just as he had from those who came before him.

His father passed on in 2011 after a lung cancer battle. He revealed that having a child was a ‘miracle’ that helped him to be ‘present.’

While he and Shayk mostly keep to themselves regarding their personal lives, they have shared tidbits about parenting a few times.

The former Victoria’s Secrets angel told Elle in 2021 about her parenting arrangement with Cooper. She revealed that she ‘never understood the term’ co-parenting.’

‘She added: ‘When I’m with my daughter, I’m 100 percent a mother, and when she’s with her dad, he’s 100 percent her dad. Co-parenting is parenting.’

Shayk said in the interview that her ex was “an amazing dad.’ The actor demonstrated this in his interview with Grylls

for ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge,’ in which he discussed the course of his life since the birth of Lea and the death of his father.

Cooper met Grylls in the Wyoming Basin, where they discussed Cooper’s father’s passing in detail.

The one-child parent was asked by the anchor how he handled being a father after his father’s passing.

‘You’ve had that whole journey with your dad, and now you’re a dad,’ Grylls remarked. The actor retorted:

‘You know, you learn from your predecessor’s mistakes, and I’ll make a lot of them, hopefully for Lea

to learn from, before being strict with myself to develop. to assist relieve her of any of my bs.’
He said that even though he wishes his father was still living,

the late patriarch offered him a ‘huge gift.” The actor remarked that his father passed away while he held him in his arms, and that ‘that kind of factual example of mortality” was eye-opening.

Cooper responded positively when Grylls asked if the event had altered his perspective, saying it had done so ‘some ways for the worst.’

The celebrity said that for a brief period of time, he had a ‘nihilistic attitude after.’

It didn’t feel great, according to Cooper, until he made the decision to ‘just embrace who I actually am and try to find peace with it.

It eventually evened out. The actor forced his mother, Gloria Campano, to move in with him after his father passed away, and he has been looking after her ever since.
